oh id love to travel upgraded...but the front of the plane arrives at the same time as the back - it is just squashier and a heck of a lot cheaper. Stay cattle class - grin and bear it and spend the money you saved having fun.

Well, its according to where you're traveling. I live in Asia and from the US...well, thats a LONG flight. It takes 24 hours with layovers. Granted, my employer pays for my flights..BUT I would say it is worth it for the longest part of my flight (either Chicago to Japan or San Fran to Japan). The seats are like little beds and the staff pamper you. Plus the food is better. Also, once you arrive to your next layover you can hang out in that airline's buisness/first class lounge...which has free food and drinks..nice bathroom and chairs.
So once I arrive to my destination I feel more rested. Trust me I've done this flight both ways...its worth it for business class.
Now, if you're talking about a flight thats less than five hours -then no. I don't get that. Of course, five hour flight seems like nothing to me.
Also, you can use your frequent flier miles to upgrade..which I do often.
If you can't afford it though..don't break the bank. Use the money once you get to your destination.

I'd never pay for it. I'd go in the cargo hold if it were cheaper though :) I was upgraded once but I was sick at the time so the smell of the food was making me sicker and we got hot towels that I was a little confused what to do with.

In the US fly Midwest. Most of their seats are business class size and they sell good food and get free chocolate chip cookies. The price is comparable to all the other airlines economy class.

First class is for people who like confront, and making the airplane feel like their home. You basically get anything you want, in first class. You get to board the plane first, and have special treatment. The seats are pretty big. At least, bigger than economy class. They give you pretty much anything you need. So if you would like all the things that I mentioned, (and more) , then have fun flying first class!

On a long haul flight where you want to function at a level higher than 40% on landing - definitely. If you have a couple of days to get your body back on track after you arrive - maybe. Less than 4 hours - probably not.

But business class is heaven compared to zoo class.

Depends on the airline your flying. Some airlines have good buisness/first class and some ar so-so while some are poor. If ur going on a long haul cross-country flight then it will be worht it if you have the money and if the airline your going on has good buisness/first class and the service is good.

On a long flight (I think anything over five hours is a long haul) it is absolutely worth it.
Lots more money, but that extra leg room is worth it.
The food is first class, the service is attentive, and the seats recline!!
What more could you want?

If you can afford it (especially on long distance flights) go for it. Apart from the better service the most important is that you have seats that almost turn into a "Bed", no queing for the toilets, fast, exclusive check-in with more baggage/weight allowance etc.

If you are loaded then sure, but if you are on a regular income, I do not see the point. I flew on a budget flight last year and was satisfied enough with the seat.
