I have had a problem with my right kidney since the end of October, when I got sharp pains near my bladder. I am seeing a small amount of blood in my urine, every day. I am convinced that it is a kidney stone, as I am having sharp pains in my back, where my kidney is. However, I have seen 5 doctors, of which only one thought it might be a kidney stone, and I have had 2 scans, neither of which found any evidence of a stone. So I have no idea what the problem is, and it has been going on for so long and getting more painful. My GP has booked another hospital appt for me with a different doctor, but before Christmas I went to a herbal clinic, told them I have a kidney stone and they gave me some disgusting herbal tea, which they said will shrink, soften and break up any stone. Every time I drink it, the pain goes away, but it is expensive (£35 for a weeks supply) and I can't afford it any more. Someone please help me! What is the problem I am having?

it sounds like a kidney stone alright. Mr. GorgeousFluffpot had similar pains and twinges for a few months and then, one night, he suddenly had excruciating pain which resulted in two nights in hospital before the kidney stone passed naturally. Ooooh, the relief! Anyway, the doctor gave us this advice - drink water little and often, never too much at one go (the urine backs up in the tubes, causing the pain), Certain foods can aggravate the stone, apparently strawberries can and asparagus - yes, true! It will either pass naturally or require an ultrasound treatment to break up the stone into smaller pieces which will then pass naturally.
But I'm surprised that the scan's haven't found a stone, maybe it is too small. I would certainly keep going back to your doctor and demanding another scan ... when the stones are quite small (although very painful) they often don't show. Stretching exercises, on the afflicted side, also help as they stretch the tube and help the stone pass along. The herbal tea doesn't sound like it's doing you any good ... what will help is to drink liquid of any kind to flush the stone through.
Good luck, Mr. GorgeousFluffpot and I sympathise and hope it passes soon.

It does sound like a kidney stone. Some can be difficult to see without special tests )having a dye injected). Even if its not a stone, theres something not right as it isnt normal to have blood in your urine and be in severe pain.
I hope you find the cause, and get it treated, soon. Good luck;

what are the causes of blood in urine?

There are multiple causes of blood in urine. Some are serious, including trauma, stones, infections, and obstructions of the urinary tract. Others are less important, and may require no treatment. These may include viral infections, nonspecific inflammations of the kidney, medications which thin the blood's clotting ability, and benign prostate enlargement.
Your tests may find out IE. an IVP injection of non harmfull dye during x ray but this condition does need expert referral. good luck

My mother suffered from kidney stones for over 20 years - they don't always show up on scans etc because it depends where they are positioned in the kidney
