Hope is decided by yourself.
In order not to easily loose your faith you'll need to do some real thinking and come up with something that makes sense to you.
Personally I don't bother believing in special historical persons, religions or gods etc. Makes no sense to put my belief in such. On the other hand I don't necessarily not believe those "things", I just don't choose to let my motivation be founded on them.
I like the idea of being a part of life evolution, and that I can contribute with my thoughts and efforts in the direction of development and expansion of life.
I see a clear point in life continuing beyond my own life. I feel there may be a point to life as a whole, hence my positive contributions always make sense.
What's a positive contribution then? I think life is developing in order to solve more and more difficult problems. Some say a cockroach is more fit for survival than humans, but I don't see that at all. Sure they can survive difficulties on this planet, but they cannot survive for example the termination of earth as a whole. Humans however can. We can reach further and discover more. That's exciting. And my personal contributions can speed up the processes necessary to solve bigger problems.
Such a great task. There's no end to it. My life will only experience a tiny part of it but I can make a difference to the whole big picture. Now that's motivation :)

Hope that I can live a long, good, happy life. Hope that religious people will stop slaughering eachother because they disagree on who succeeded muhammed as the leader of Islam. Hope that my exams go well this summer. Hope that humans will reach the stars. Hope that we will discover intelligent life. etc. [I could go on for a long time].
Not clinging on to probably false hopes that I will live forever and my enemies will burn in torment for eternity.

"On the contrary, religious people often worry that life is meaningless and imagine that it can only be redeemed by the promise of eternal happiness beyond the grave. Atheists tend to be quite sure that life is precious. Life is imbued with meaning by being really and fully lived. Our relationships with those we love are meaningful now; they need not last forever to be made so. Atheists tend to find this fear of meaninglessness … well … meaningless." (Sam Harris)

I am confident that I exist and I can depend on myself. Instead of placing my hopes in a being that may or may not exist, I find it is much better to place my hopes in myself.
