O dear! It is really strange that all the things that cat lovers adore about cats are exactly what freaks out non-cat people!

Cats do follow you about - usually when they want to be fed - the rest of the time they just want to be left somewhere warm and comfortable. This is often on the clean towels in the airing cupboard or in your bed!

And yes they do have that unblinking stare which is nothing like the adoring big brown eyes of the family dog.

I sympathise with you as you can't help being uneasy but as someone who owns several dogs and loves cats I feel so sorry that you can't give her the very little love and attention that cats need.

If it doesn't work out perhaps you can give her to a cat-loving family and persuade your partner to get a dog?

Well you know something, there's been lots of documented cases of people being killed by dogs but never even a suggestion of an adult being killed by a cat. Even the suggestion that a cat might sleep on a baby and suffocate it is silly if you ask me.

Cats are very curious, that's why she watchs you. She rubs up against you as a sign of affection, she is marking you as her own. She may play at attacking things, including you if you happen to be handy, but that's just play. Try getting a cat toy and shaking it around in front of her and watch her "killing" it, it's incredible funny. Another great cat game is put her and a ping pong ball in an empty bath, it's hysterical to watch. (make sure you hide the ping pong ball at night though, that game is no fun at 3am!) If you get used to playing with her you will probably feel more relaxed about her. Occasionally she may accidentally scratch you, cats have very sharp claws, but they rarely attack on purpose unless they are really scared or upset.

Cats aaaaahhhh:) I'd rather have a cat than a human! You can argue with them and the worst you'll get is a hiss/slash. Then for no reason at all they will sit and give that 'I Love You Only' look, or the 'But I'm Your Best Friend', or Well Don't do It Again!!'look. haha Cats are really so great, they talk all the time.run around like crazy,Stare as if you are a foreign alien or something and how on earth did YOU get in my face!!
They rub up against things to mark their territory, they have glands just behind their ears and along their cheeks. Thats why she is rubbing at the moment.Cats can be like dogs! they will follow you around, to the loo, outside anywhere, really.
you can play hidey with them, just like a dog ,'train' them to 'fetch' (don't let that get around as most cats will deny it) and all sorts of things. There are books you can get that tell you Why cats do the things they do. Like standing in the doorway, and neither going in or out .Its to see how long You will wait for them!! hahaSee Crazy Critters

Cats often stare. Sometimes they are just trying to gain control as they would with another cat. Just look away and do something else. You will find if you narrow your eyes slightly for a brief second it will help. Cats see that as a sign of friendship.
Another constant stare is the "feed me now" type. In which case you will get no respite until you do what the cat wants!
Please don't be scared, the cat is just trying to get to know you, suss out what he/she can get away with.
If the cat approaches you with its tail erect that is another sign it feels friendly.
Good luck. Cats are fascinating creatures with some quirky personality traits. Sure you will end up getting on fine.

It blows my mind that some people are more afraid of a tiny cat than a dog that could kill you. Cats would rather run and hide than confront people.
Once you get over your fears and start talking and loving the cat the sooner you will become friends. The cat is just as scared of you as you are of it.
It stares at you for it knows you don't like it and it is leary of you. They can sense these things.

Hi, pls leave bogus man's advice alone. Its not a gud thing to do. Cats are very special animals. Trust me, i hav one. She is very cute. Pliz, dont freak out, coz the cat following u means that she really lyks u, and is fond of u. Just try to touch her fur or cuddle her. She will not do anything bad to u, especially if ur nyc to her. When u sit down, let her come on ur lap. If u here her mew, or purr, or even uc her closing her eyes, it means she is very comfortable with u. J ust use ur hand to stroke ha fur. Also, giv her food at the right tym, and water or milk. If she cries it means it wants to play, or its hungry/ thirsty. My cat luvs staring at people too, there is nathing to worry about. Ul get used 2 her very soon. If u feel uncomfortable doing this, pls holla bak by saying, 'I still feel uncomfortable around cats', n we will take small steps, so that u can lyk them. ul grow to even luv them. They are so adorable. Cats need lots and lots of luv. Good luck!! Mia

If you are so scared, she could feel it and then she might be scared of you, too. Why are you so scared?? Cats are really sweet. She's following you around cause obviously she needs attention. Which is more like a dog, so you should be glad about that. Try to be nice to her and you'll see that she is sweet little thing. Good luck.

She's just being a cat. She'll grow on you. My husband only had dogs all his life (his mom told him he was allergic. Not likely when he wakes up with more cats on the people bed than peoples) and now he pretty much prefers them.

my sister in law used to be the same way. Then my nephew got a cat. Now she adores that cat. It's just because you've never been around one. She just wants company. If she didn't like you she wouldn't follow you around.
