yes i do think its not fair we as a family of 5 to pay for a 6 bed place as they don't do odd numbers without it costing extra for the flight and things just because it school holidays. its whats known as taking the pi** out of us unfortunate people that can only go away at peak time. its not right.

It's supply and demand. Fairness does not come into it.
There are a fixed number of places at school holiday times so prices are high.
The people who really suffer are school teachers with no children of school age!.
One useful tip is that Scotland and England have different school holidays so bargains can exist.
Also remember that 'bargain' flights may be more expensive than the brochure price. (Airtours did this!)
Join your PTA and lobby the head teacher to close school a day early.
Do not take your kid off school to get cheaper holidays It pisses off the teachers and the first day of term can be very important; missing the last day can mean that your child does not get holiday work notes.

American Heritage Dictionary
Capitalism - An economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately or corporately owned and development is proportionate to the accumulation and reinvestment of profits gained in a free market
The definition of Free Market from Investopedia is "A market economy based on supply and demand with little or no government control. A completely free market is an idealized form of a market economy where buyers and sells are allowed to transact freely (i.e. buy/sell/trade) based on a mutual agreement on price without state intervention in the form of taxes, subsidies or regulation."
In short it is becuase we live in a capitalist society and there are buyers at that price. If the seller could sell the product at even an higher price and still have buyers he would. If nobody is buying at a certain price - the price will go down (an application of the law of supply and demand)

No, its shocking. Some familes can't afford to go because of this. And the government moan when we take kids out of school to go on holidays. If anything, seeings as most people go away in the school holidays, they should offer some sort of discount which would in turn lead to kids not being off during school term

supply on demand, if people are willing to pay for something then the people doing the selling are going to charge more and if they didnt charge more then, they would have to charge a lot more than the average cost of a holiday to redeem back the money they will lose

when things are in a high demand the price goes up, family holidays are usually taken when children are of school so the price goes up. and it is not a matter of it being fair, that's the way it is.

Of course it's fare! By definition. I don't know if it's fair or not. I'm a linguist, not an economist.
