What your dog is experiencing, is called Reverse Sneezing, and it's very scary. It's not dangerous, and can be stopped by rubbing his throat lightly, and talking to him in a soft voice. I have 5 chihuahuas, that do it too, when they get excited, and that's what my vet advised me to do when it happens.

Do you mean reverse sneezing? Dogs have the ability to sneeze backwards, sounds kind of like a snort, cant catch their breath for a second. It a muscle spasm similar to a hiccup. If you think he is actually having trouble breathing, please take him to the vet. You didnt say if these were all the same breed of dog, some breeds are prone to diseases that can lead to respiratory problems.
