Let him know how you feel...
I was in a situation just recently where this really nice guy kept asking me out, and he was very gentlemanly and everything nice, but I simply don't like him in that way and would not want to be gf bf with him. He kept ringing me (both on my home phone and mobile), emailing me, wanting to pick me up and drop me home, keep trying to arrange opportunities to spend time together etc... well, I just told him today that I feel uncomfortable with him contacting me so often, and assured him that he hasn't really done anything wrong. He took it very well, (even apologised!), and I think from now on he will give me the space I need. I said all these to show you that you need to let that guy know how you feel. If he cares about you, he will respect your feelings.

Tell him straight you are not interested, if he still does not understand give him a wide berth for a while, cos girl he's stressing you right out!!
Or you could say unfortunately you have taken with a religious cult and by chance the week of his birthday you are spending in a corn field in the mid west waiting for the mothership.
First one is prob more logical, but the second one would be good just to see his reaction!!

if he can't respect the fact that you only want to be friends with him then maybe he isn't a good friend. You might just have to stop hanging out with him all together.
Give him fair warning... just say "look, I have told you that I don't want to date you and I would like to stay friends, but if you can't respect my feelings then this cannot even work as a friendship".
Then you have to follow through with it... if he asks you out again after telling him that then stop talking to him.
I actually had to end a friendship because of a situation like yours... it sucked but it was for the best.

dude, stop telling him you can be best friends, because obviously you wont be best friends. That is a lie.
Many guys dont understand the meaning of having girls just as friends, I used to think that for the longest time, all grils were potential mates for me.
The fact is, he treats your "freindlyness" as potential interest.
Stop it. Just be assertive. And use some punctuation, geez. 12 year olds...

Either fish or cut bate. Either go out with him or tell him to get lost. He obviously cannot be friends with you unless you two are going out, so those are your only choices.

if u feel that strongly tell him to get lost and don't worry about his feelings, cause if you do worry about them you'll provide false hope for him to cling to. i know its hard to be "mean" but somtimes you have no choice.
