If you go to Google and do a search on 'corrupt word document', you'll be presented with countless programs that fix corrupt documents. Some are freeware, some are shareware, and some you need to outright buy.

However, before you waste any time downloading programs that may not help you, here is a tip that can sometimes help, as long as the file is not overly corrupt.

Open a blank Word document and hit enter a few times to create a few blank lines. Click on Insert on the drop down menu, and choose File. Browse to where the corrupt document is, and try to insert it from there. Sometimes Word will be able to pull the document in. Also note this is for Word 2003. If you have an earlier version of Word, I believe the commands is File --> Insert.

If this fails, you may wish to go to http://www.download.com and search for 'corrupt word document' there. You should then sort the results by user rating to get the best rated download for your problem. I've used both 'Office Recovery' and 'Word Fix' with good results.

Good luck!
