What bite (possible from a spider) looks like a bruise?

My brother in law discovered a bruise about 10 cm long and 5 cm wide on his inner thigh a week ago. It was black with a white elongated shape in the middle of it. Today, a week later, it looks like a normal blue bruise, that you would get from hurting yourself.

He never felt a bite, and there were no obvious bite marks. It was never very painful or itchy. Just swollen and a bit tender.

On the day that he discovered it he was walking through fynbos (only found in South Africa, mainly shrubs), but also spend time on the beach and walked through sand dunes.

Have googled spider bites, but have mostly found pictures of the brown recluse. Unlike the brown recluse he doesn't have any open wounds. And he never felt sick in any way.

We live in South Africa.

Do you have any idea what have bitten him?

To ease Ur mind run Google search on spider bites symtoms. This will let U know if it was a spider bite. Being a week ago if it was a spider bite he would have a distinct wound where the bite was. I saw the brown Recluse answer he would have a wound that would make the skin start to deteriorate at the wound & it will spread over time and show signs of infection. Run Google like I said earlier & U will feel much better. I hope this helps U.

I just came here, because i wanted to thank you for the beautiful answer you gave the global warming question. I was shocked how many people don't believe it's happening. I hope you've seen the movie "an inconvenient truth". If you haven't i think you'll enjoy it. I usually don't get any thumbs downs, but I got three for saying that it's true. That scares me to think that people aren't taking it seriously. Anyway.

ps i hope the spider bite has healed and was uneventful. It sounds like it may have been a tick bite. Sometimes tick bites have a "bull's eye" look with a bruise looking surround and a lighter center. I hate to be an alarmist, but if it was a tick bite and it looked like a bull's eye, then he should see a doctor and get tested for Lyme's disease. It's unlikely, but if it's the case, he can benefit from a particular antibiotic that nips Lyme's disease in the bud. Because Lyme's is such a debilitating illness, even though it's not likely, he should see a doc to be sure, especially since the remedy is so easy if it is.
