Thanks for your thought. Just to make a point, wanting to be more thoughtful, kind, knowledgable, skilled, patient, generous, understanding, tolerant, helpful, courageous, etc is all RELIGIOUS. Religion is not just a couple of prayers, it is how you think, behave and live your life.
Peace

I have no religion. I do believe in and love God. I need to work on being more patient. I need to start doing more to ease peoples suffering. Go to rest homes and read to the elderly and spend time with them is what I'm wanting to do. I need to work on being a better person in regards to the planet. I need to work on getting more involved with world affairs. Take care.

State my faith? I'm atheist. (I used to be Irish Catholic, but y'know, you grow...)
I guess I have four answers to the question "What can I do to be a better person?":
1. Accept people pretty much for who they are. Life is too short to let yourself hate others or be annoyed by them. The world is comprised of people, so get along as best you can.
2. Aspire to excellence in most of the stuff you do. It kinda raises the bar for us all.
3. Give up wanting as much as possible. Desire is the source of all suffering.
4. Focus on the important stuff -- don't get weighed down by the small stuff. (Huxley's quote: "Man has an almost infinite appetite for distraction.")
Gotta go. Simpsons is on.

Read Galatians 5:16-26 in the Bible. It talks about the Fruits of the Spirit that should be obvious in every Christian's life.

I am a Baha'i.
I have learned to believe that the more I am obedient to the Law of the One True God, the more I will become better that myself today, I don't become better than other people.
For example, if I cannot love people today, I must try to love tomorrow. If I cannot forgive today, I must try to forgive tomorrow. If I don't know something today, I must try to seek knowledge about it tomorrow.
So, my secret is that simple effort to become better than myself physically, intellectually, spiritually every day by practicing the Law of the One True God.

Humility & Self-Control,
I have been a christian for a bit over a year now, & I see all the unchristlike things Christian do & it angers me, I am learning that not all people have had the same experiences as I have & they struggle with different things. I need to accept that it may not always be my place to say something.
With Jesus as my teacher I'm learning.

Better by what standards? There's nothing you can do to be better in God's eyes. He already loves you, and just wants your belief in him.
However, to be a good person in the world, you should do something that gives back to it. You should reach out to people and meet their practical and spiritual needs. Paul called us to care for "widows and orphans," who would be the poorest and have the greatest need. The Bible calls that true (faultless) charity.

I need to work on my ability to keep a straight face when people tell me how clay statues came to life and became us, and one man built a boat that held all the animals on the face of the earth while the kind benevolent God drowned all the humans, every man, woman and child--do I really need to state that I'm an atheist?

I'm not religious at all. Right now I am working on mediation and relaxation.. and brining that to all relationships in my life. It is especialy difficult as this pregnancy is very hormonal and I can't exercise alot due to dizzy spells (exercise promotes relaxation).. but right now that is what I am working on. So to become a better person, I am 'working' on peace

What I found has really helped me is to try to understand my own emotions and thought processes. By observing how people interact I have been able to develop my sense of empathy. This is useful when you want to "put yourself in another person's shoes" and see things from their perspective. This is probably one of the greatest things anyone could do to try to better themselves.
