boxers use it for multiple uses:

-the obvious one, practice hitting something with weight behind it. Sure, it wont move, but you can use it to practice your combos, jabs and hooks.

-another not obvious one, have you ever been in a fight? have you ever punched someone with all your might? You'll soon learn that 2 vulnerable spots are your knuckles and your wrists. If you dont lock out your wrist, your gonna break it. Also, repeated punches to someone, your gonna bruise your knuckles. Just like ballet dancers build up calleses on there feet, you need to build them up on your knuckles. This helps toughen them up.

basically, heavy bags are esential for boxers.

It's all in your moves! From your knuckles straight to the bag. It improves the strength of your punch. The amount of Force you used does anyway.

it will help your technique but not your power. power comes from training your core. the inner/outer thighs, hip flexors, and the low back/abdominals.

punching power comes from the ground up (legs) through the rotating action of the trunk then to the arms to the hands
