They are one with the earth and feel a need to smoke weed. Alot of people who smoke weed also smoke cigarettes. In the case of enviromental people, it's usually home-rolled cigarettes.

How the heck do you know that "so many" are?
I would love to see your evidence, maybe you've seen 20 people whom you consider environmentalists and 16 of them were smoking. That's conclusive proof if I've ever seen it.
Maybe because besides your narrow view point environmentalists are still people and people get addicted to cigarettes, nutritionists and doctors smoke too.
If you are referring to marijuana, well anyone with a brain can do the research and see that marijuana really doesn't have much negative health effects, although it is best to consume by eating, not smoking. And that it was illegalized due to racism, business, and political corruption. Just because something is illegal doesn't mean it's wrong.

Preaching is easy but practice is different. Overcoming addictive behavior is not easy. Needs good amount of will power, social support and then grace.
If some one is seriously interested in stopping, I can suggest some suitable helpful techniques.

This may not be right, but is a guess that since tobacco is naturally grown maybe they feel it is a natural product even though it has horrible chemicals in it.
