A hater is one who hates, who is known for being disagreeable. It means a pessimist, someone who thinks only bad things about other people, especially in groups. The term suggests prejudice. (Sometimes it is used insincerely, such as whenever someone disagrees with the speaker.)

Could be hatters as in "As mad as Hatters" This came from the fact that many years ago the chemicals used in producing felt hats would turn the hatter mad.
