I mean don't look at Iraq now or Afghanistan after 2001. Let's look at the Arab countries, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, etc. These nations have a far lower crime rate (especially when it comes to homicide) than most of the Western Christian countries. Not just that, but even among the West, you'll find America (the most Christian of them) having the highest rates of homicides! Again, in America itself, you shall find the crime rate reaching its maximum in the Bible Belt states. Why is that?

On the contrary, the more Islamic a country is, the lower is its crime rate. When I visited Saudi Arabia, it was far safer than Egypt and Turkey. Yemen is even safer than all; being the safest nation in the world.

In fact, many Westerners who came to visit Muslim countries, were so fascinated by the fact that these countries are comparatively very safe, that they converted to Islam at once; though these countries were much poorer and less-developed. Those who didn't convert still showed admiring.

If we come to the West, we'll find high rates of crime; leading to early curfews, a high concentration of police forces, the population always walking scared and advised not to talk to strangers and not even walking alone in most places, etc. This is true with America more than Europe and Canada. Though these countries are very wealthy and well-developed, it seems that all these great achievements could not prevent them from becoming very dangerous places. If we go to Africa, where poverty is high, we'll find the highest crime rates in the world in the Christian nations there; especially South Africa, and even the Christian parts of Nigeria. Latin America's crime rate is between America and Africa.

Therefore, I am really puzzled why the West looks at Islam as being violent, though the Muslim countries are the safest in the world, and why is Christianity seen as peaceful, though its countries are the most dangerous in the whole world!

Nothing but bigotry; I suppose?!

To those who want proof for the crime rate statistics, you could search it in Wikipedia.

As for the converts to Islam, check also the Wikipedia; especially Murad Hoffman (prominent German official) and other converts to Islam there.

Regarding the severity of punishment, don't you find it justifiable to prevent crime? It's like the amputation of a cancerous organ!

Yes, I do believe that Allah's law is higher than any corrupted or man-made law or constitution. I was in Saudi Arabia for Hajj, and found it much safer than Egypt; though in Cairo (Egypt's most dangerous city), you could walk alone in any street at 2 AM without anyone attacking you; though pickpckets are high in crowded places. Still no violent crimes are noted. Again Yemen and Saudi Arabia are much safer and the people there are far nicer and much more friendly. We don't find that in the West...do we??

I forgot: Egypt and Turkey have secular laws, yet Muslims are still Muslims. Don't know about Yemen though.

By the way, Islam admits that Jesus is the Messiah. Anyone denying that would be a non-Muslim.

Regarding prosperity, Yemen is not as prosperous as Saudi Arabia; though it is safer.Again, Americans are wealthier than Europeans; though their country is more dangerous.

I've read that Washington DC is the most Christian part of America; despite the fact that it is the country's murder capital.

Islamic law guarantees safety to non-Muslims; though not absolute equality with them. If a Muslim murders a non-Muslims, he is executed, yet non-Muslims can't be prominent government officials in Muslim countries except in secular countries like Egypt.

In short, Christians are much safer in Islamic countries than in their own; though the fact is that under Islamic law, they can't be identical nor equal to Muslims; especially when it comes to authourity positions.

Well...it seems that there are some people here who are willing to exchange their safety with liberty. They have a point of view here; as human nature finds it hard to be prevented from things that it is already used to (like smoking, drinking and over-eating for example)...yet the question that arises from this perspective would be: How many people are willing to sacrifice their safety for the benefit of "too much" liberty that has already led to undiscipline?

Do you think that abolishing the death penalty, allowing fornication under the name of friendship, allowing homose xuality, allowing alcohol and smoking, permitting group sex,...etc will help keep a country safe? Even if not...are you willing to sacrifice a geat proportion of your safety for such liberties?

As one British intellect said to Selina Scott: True freedom is the fruit of absolute discipline.

Yeah! Because ill-discipline is the mother of crime; a fact not an opinion.

Aston184, if you don't trust Wikipedia, why don't you surf the internet for articles in this regard...If still the internet is not reliable, surf Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble for books that discuss this issue.

The books I have are Arabic ones, and the people whom I knew were Australians, Americans, Canadians, British and French. One Filippino also accepted Islam.

You could also post a question here asking for those people to tell you their stories. Hey, don't you personally know some of these people?

I don't know your country, but have you not ever visited one of the Muslim countries? If not, come and visit us. You'll be more than welcome.

Good luck!

Much safer you say! Jihadists today invoke the Quran to justify the worst terrorist crimes.

Throat slitting of infidels is mentioned in the Quran. Al-Mawardi (d. 1058), the prominent 11th century jurist quoted this verse, specifically, « When you encounter those who deny (the Truth) then strike (their) necks. » (Quran 47 :4), in his learned discussion of jihad. This ritual execution is also mentioned in other Muslim legal texts and in narratives of Christian and prominent Muslim historians. Today it is performed against infidels and recorded on videotape for the edification of Muslim audiences.

When the average pious Muslim reads a verse like 2:132 (“And this was the legacy that Abraham left to his sons, and so did Jacob; ‘Oh my sons! Allah hath chosen the Faith for you; then die not except in the Faith of Islam’”) or 3:67 (“Abraham was not a Jew nor yet a Christian; but he was true in Faith, and bowed his will to Allah’ (which is Islam), and he joined not gods with Allah”), he understands what so many imams tell him: that the true Jews and Christians of today are the Muslims, and the people who go by those names are renegades and rebels against God.

This is of course nonsense.

The best and most reliable way to find out the answer to your question is to study the life and behaviour of the founders of Islam, Muhammad and his followers (they are the role models of Islam). Were they violent? How did they spread Islam? How did they treat their enemies? Did they raid, loot and kill? Did they enslave anyone? Did they force conversions? Did they invade other lands? Did they have discriminatory taxes? How did they treat women? etc. etc. You don't need to go to allegedly biased sources for this information, just get it from the Muslim's own 'Hadiths' (writings about the life of Muhammad). People can argue all day about what the Quran means? who wrote it? and how it is interpreted? but history is another matter. How the originators of Islam behaved is the key to really understanding Islam and what it stands for. I will leave the research up to you (plenty of it is available online).

Because of the punishments being so more severe then they are over here. You get your hand cut off for stealing, not many are going to steal any time soon. Hell, women still get stoned to death for cheating on there husbands, I can't imagine what happens if you take another man's life.

"In fact, many Westerners who came to visit Muslim countries, were so fascinated by the fact that these countries are comparatively very safe, that they converted to Islam at once; though these countries were much poorer and less-developed."

I love to see some facts to prove this statement.

****YOUR GETTING YOUR FACTS FROM WIKIPEDIA??? THAT PROVES NOTHING!!! You do realize that any Joe can edit those pages & put whatever the hell they want. Wikipedia is one of the worst sources on the web. Only ignorant people point to Wiki when they're trying to prove a point. I want DOCUMENTED FACTS that people "converted to Islam at once" after going to these third world countries.****

The reason the crime rate is greater in the west is because the western people profess to be Christian, but in reality they don't follow the scriptural guideline of the bible. They allow themselves to serve God the way they want to, not how God wants them to.
There wages for this will be in their future. The Islamic peoples that serve God also will be tested in the future if there teaching is correct then God will judge them. but if their teaching is not then they too will reap their wages. Personally I think that if a person does what John 17:3 says and really tries., he might just have a chance as Zephaniah 2:3 states.

Christianity and Islam are both religions of peace. But I think its interesting that lowest crime rates are in countries that practice Islamic law. You can talk about Islamic countries, but there are no Christian countries. Christians in the Bible belt are subject to the same corrupt, diseased judicial system as the rest of the country. What happens to a convicted criminal in a Muslim country? My father-in-law has been convicted of three separate incidents of sodomizing pre-teen girls since 1990, and that SOB is a free man today, and enjoys greater protection by law than I do. How would he fare if convicted on three counts of the same crime in Saudi Arabia?

Buddhism, Christianity, Islam...are all religions of peace. Situations of various countries depend on political powers, not on religions. Especially, at this age of humanity, human beings listen more to the teachings of God in the Holy Books than to the religious leaders. And religious teachings essentially stress on love, peace, uinity...Movements contradictory to these divine ideals can no longer attract conscious and mature people.

Homicides and crime rates are directly proportional to prosperity. The reason why there is so less crime rate in saudi arabia and similar sates is because the locals are well fed, otherwise saudi arabia in recent history before the discovery of oil was one of the worst tribal areas of the world.

Because Islamic countries esp. Saudi Arabia implement God's true laws.

Saudi Arabia has one of the lowest crime rates in the world!

From what I've seen available on the internet, "Islamic countries" are not peaceful. I've seen criminals punished by skewering them with a stake in the middle of a cheering crowd, limbs cut and torn off, and various other horrendous brutalities, right in the middle of Saudi Arabia. If that is peace, I will take my lack of safety willingly in exchange for liberty and reason.

Yeah, and if you'll notice...Muslim fanatics might downcast their women, but they don't accuse them of being witches and burn any women at the stake...that was an all-loving Christian concept.

On the other hand, many Arab countries have a lower crime rate because they have MUCH MUCH MUCH harsher, perhaps even overboard penalties...still, it gets the job done, doesn't it?
