The allergy rash in ears is most often caused by feeding corn. The food you have chosen is a pretty good one. I would prefer to feed a toy dog Canidae, Innova, Wellness, Natural Balance, or Solid Gold..I bred Chihuahuas for many years.

Royal Canin is a good food... all high quality foods are good, but not all fit each dog.
Let me say that I am practically an expert on allergies (my dog almost died from a mixture of food and evironmental allergies at a very young age- so the vets weren't taking allergies into consideration, and it was allergies!). A rash that appears and suddenly disappears in a short period of time sounds like an environmental allergy to me.
If this happens often, try giving benadryll (a small amount as your dog is small) to your dog. See if this problem arises during the duration of them being on the benadryll. If not, chances are that it's environmental. Also pay close attention to the things your dog has touched in the area of the rash. For example, my dog is allergic to grass (among MANY other things) and the grass will cause a major rash just by brushing over it... and if he lays on it the skin will actually scab.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me through yahoo or my pet community. I would be more than happy to share anything I've gone through if it can help you out.

My mom has shown and bred Chihuahuas for 14-15 years. This is what she feeds as well as certain supplements (I think her link is somewhere in the below e-mail) Have you spoken with a vet? Food allergies can certainly cause that but the "here one second gone the next" is very strange. I don't know where you live but if you are in the UK, Burns dog food is excellent for allergies. I don't think I can get it here in the USA. The Royal Canin is supposed to be decent food although you have to watch their weight with them LOSING weight. It's a strange thing but I think if a particular dog is losing lots of weight with a food they aren't absorbing it properly.
RECOMMENDED DRY DOG FOODS:
BE SURE TO KEEP BAGS TIGHTLY CLOSED AT ALL TIMES TO AVOID RANCIDITY!!
These are some of the dry dog foods I feed (I buy small bags so the dogs have a change at least monthly)
Canine Caviar Puppy Chicken (31/19 protein/fat)
http://www.caninecaviar.com/puppyformula.html
can buy online
Chicken Soup For the Puppy Lover's Soul ( 28/17 protein/fat)
www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com
Most feed stores
Royal Canin Yorkshire (NOT CHIHUAHUA--that formula has SOY--BAD for dogs) (28/18)
Petco

Precise Puppy (29/19)
888-477-3247 www.precisepet.com
Purina Pro Plan SELECTS Puppy (28/18)
(I only feed this once a year or so)
Petco, Petsmart
healthy dogs take vitamins!!! www.nuvet.com/62539
Canned food.
I use several, Dick Van Patten, Merrick, Solid Gold (try Duncans). Petco/Petsmart don't have good ones.

Read the ingrediants on the dog food bag...Dogs should NOT eat dog food that contains Wheat, Soy, and Corn. Eating such food are not healthy and can lead to health problems, including allergies....
Keep in mind that this cancels out such foods as Iams, Eukaneuba, Science Diet..Purinia, etc....These are NOT good foods, the way they are cooked kills any nutritionalvalue just so the bag can have a longer shelf life. And the vets that sell Science Diet, only do so becaause they share funding for the vet schools.
Check online for pet stores that are close toyou..the little pet stores always carry the better dog foods, ...
Great dog foods: Solid Gold, Merrick, Innova Evo (but dont feed this to a puppy until hes at least 2years , Timberwolf, just to name a few...

Yes it is possible, but not likely. Food allergies in dogs dont typically show up until after a year old, and usually are more generalized over the whole body (itchy feet, bad coat, dry skin, diarrhea). I would rule out all other probabilities first, ear infection, ear mites, skin allergy to shampoo, fleas, etc. Have your vet do a skin scraping of the affected area to make sure its not a bacterial or parasitic infection.
I recommend Purina Pro Plan, Sci Diet and Iams puppy foods, dry is always better for their dental health than canned.

Yes food allergies can certainly cause ear problems & rashes as well as itchies, scaley skin, paw chewing and a host of other problems.
The usual causes are foods that contain corn, wheat or soy..look for a food that has none of these ingredients.

Yes, I use that food with my Chi. He loves it and it seems to be really good food. My boy is 10 months. Try it, if it doesn't work, bring him to the vet to check for flea allergies or something else that may be irritating him.
