Ok, my suitemates play their music loud usualy from about 11pm till 3 am. This effects me because I am currently studying to take the MCATs and my schedule is packed during the weekday and I really need my sleep. My roomate hates the noise too. We have talked with them about it, we are even friends with them. The problem is they usually play the music loud because they are drunk. We've told the RA and the campus police and they usualy only fix it for either the night or the 5 mins they are here. So I've decided to play hardball. Is ther some way I can remotely control the power to the stereo (they have one you plug in to iPods and Computers) cause they are usually so durnk they wouldn't investigate. If not is there some way I can control the max volume on it to put a limit on it. Thanks for your time and thoughts guys.

The ear plugs would be nice, but keep in mind I also have to wake up to my alarm clock in the morning. I guess If I could get noise-cancelling headphones and then find an alarm clock program for my computer that could work.

You need to find an Electrical Engineering major and have him build you a devise which will disrupt the sound system. Much in the ways a cellphone will interfere with certain computer speakers, a frequecy generator might cause their speakers to distort.

If your suitemates are drunk (is alcohol allowed on campus) then you can pursue other methods to get them kicked out of the dorm (complain to the dean of housing, or the dorm supervisor- not the RA).

See if you can find the circuit breaker panel. If you can access it, then you can turn the power off to their stereo. Be careful that you do not turn off all the power in your suite or to the room next to them. If that does not work, you can short out their power by finding an outlet that is shared. Again, have an EE do this for you.

By plugging in a devise that will short circuit the plug, it will trip the breaker. This is very dangerous and can get you hurt if you do not know what you are doing.

If all else fails, and they do not listen to reason, then you can get even by putting a small pebble in the cap of their tires (it will let the air out).

Stick insects! they're very cool and thrilling, also relaxing, and the fixtures like eucalyptus leaves and such will make the room scent tremendous! you'll get tremendous ones that are thorny in visual allure and performance orange, autumn colored our bodies! also I comprehend you do not go with a fish, yet heavily, try an axolotl (Mexican strolling fish) you'd be particular to have the most funniest searching puppy interior the entire college! And a kind of rodent, i'm afraid they quite a lot all provide off a smell. Rabbits go with tremendous hutches and they poo plenty (from my journey) Rats and mice are small and relaxing, yet in a small room, the scent will seem more desirable and could be ugly, ( as I have a only a million rat and sparkling the cage practically out each day even though it nonetheless reeks, regardless of the window open) i am going to't imagine of the different rodent except a ferret, yet they deffs should not be aloud as they bite and performance poor odors. it is all i am going to assert extremely, wish I have helped! :))

You have four options.(1)File a complaint with student affairs.(2)Each room should have it's own breaker switch, locate it and flip it when they start playing their music too loud.(3)Wait until they are trying to sleep and you start playing some loud music or some other loud annoying noise.(4)Deal with it, after all you are in college and that's just a part of living in a dorm.

I had a friend who would crank up my stereo as loud as it would go - any time he visited. I ended up unplugging the speakers (and told him that he'd broken them) and made him use headphones.

You could remove the soundcard from their computer. Or maybe just disable it from the control panel. (If you don't know how to do this - find a computer geek - they love challenges).

I don't know about speakers for IPods....I'd be tempted to dunk them in a toilet or chuck them out of a window.

Be prepared to replace or pay for the repair of anything you damage though.

Your best bet is to forget it and find a quiet place elsewhere to study--because trying to reduce the noise level in a dorm is pretty much a lost cause.

Now you know why some people live off-campus (besides the fact that its usually cheaper)! :)

Here's what I did ... my room-mates played very loud music the night before my neuro-science exam ... I asked them to stop - they refused. About 5 am the music went off, I was up at 7:30, and set my stereo to full volume (locked in my room) and went to write my exam.
