The baby tooth is loose; how long before it should push the baby tooth out? It has been several weeks and nothing is really happening. The tooth is still, just slightly loose, but the adult tooth is growingAT what point should I be concerned if it doesnt come out? It there a general rule to this & what are your experiences?

At 5yo your daughter is going fine.
The lower front adult teeth naturally come up behind the baby teeth and eventually push them out. This is perfectly normal and no intervention is necessary at all.
The baby tooth will go thru phases of loosening and tightening again until it is ready to go. It may be a few months yet.

Alright this happens all the time. The permanent teeth sometimes grow faster than the baby teeth are ready to fall out. The permanent tooth will grow around the baby tooth instead of pushing it out. It will appear that there are 2 rows of a given tooth. Some dentists will pull the baby tooth if it causes a problem but in 9 out of 10 cases it just needs to be left alone and take its course. As long as there is no blood and it does not hurt you don't have to be worried unless you still have trouble after an extended period of time.

If the tooth is in the BACK then sure, it's probably just th enormal eruption of the six year molar. If it's coming in in the FRONT behind the baby lower incisors, then that could be a concern... If he's scheduled to see the dentist within the next 2-3 months anywya, you're pobably ok waiting 'til then. If not, you probably want to have it looked at...I can't really answer for you w/o looking in your son's mouth and/or looking at xrays. Now, if your son is five years old and doesn't see a dentist regularly, you need to get on the horse and get him in ANYway...I think kids shoudl be seen starting at 2 or 3...the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists and the ADA actually says one year old! which is not unreasonable, either. As for the dentist's wife above who said "don't worry"... I'm kind of surprised, if only because you'd think she'd be more cognizant of where her bread is buttered! Lol... seriously tho', I'm not always saying to run to the dentist for everything, even in cases where I coudl make a buck on it... good luck!

usually nature just takes its course, but if the baby tooth has been loose for a few weeks and the big tooth is growing, maybe you should ask a dentist.

I has the exact same thing happen to me- with both of my front upper teeth. My mum and dad just waited for the baby teeth to fall out, but this left my adult teeth crooked and I am now wearing braces. I suggest that you go to a dentist and see what they reccomend.

My rule of thumb is to let the permanent teeth come in "half the distance" to the biting edge of the lower front baby teeth before you worry about it. If they get beyond that height, it may be necessary to remove the baby teeth.

Let it naturally come out. When it becomes very loose, sort of hanging-by-a-thread loose, then just yank it out real quickly. It doesn't hurt if you do it this way, really.
