I say, Sorry I have stopped donating to any charities over the phone. We have so many doing it it has become untenable. Thank you for calling, have a nice day!

I feel the same way much of the time! The bottom line is, the sooner you say no, the sooner they can move on to the next person that will say yes. You are a generous person, and don't need to spend time feeling guilty, instead take that opportunity to pat yourself on the back for being one of the people who regularly does their part! Good for you! I still struggle time to time, but i have learned that a simple, "No, not at this time, but thankyou for collecting for this noble cause, and have a nice day!" works in most cases. If their real intent is to find people to support their cause, they will move on, but if they push, just be firm and dont beat yourself up!
Good Luck!!

I hate the ones that first start asking for an amount like $50 then when you say no to that, they start dropping the amount. Finally when they're down to $5 bucks they're trying to make you feel like a real cheapskate.
These solicitors were the reason I started using caller ID. If it's an unrecognized number, I don't pick up. I figure, if it's important they'll leave a message. And guess what, they never leave a message! Problem solved.

Most charities ask you for donations for a specific cause, but in reality your contributions are divided among several different organizations, some of which you may not want to donate to,also some keep a percentage for themselves.Just ask them exactly where your money is really going to and more often than not they will hang up on you.

Getting on the do not call list can eliminate a lot of these calls, but when I still get one once in a while, I just say I'm sorry, my budget for giving is already going to a cause of my choosing.

Just say exactly what you have just said here. That there are plenty of worthy charities out there, but if you gave to every single one of them you would become a charity case yourself. You have chosen the ones that are close to your heart and that means you are able to give them stronger and more meaningful support. So thank you for your time, but on this occasion no thanks. There is no other way to do it!

Politely say that you don't respond to requests for donations over the phone. Then say thank you and good bye. If they still keep talking then they are not being courteous to you, so at that point they really leave you no choice but to hang up the phone.
My point is, that if they don't respect what you say and end the call, then THEY are being rude and you don't need to stand for that.

They count on your guilt to get a "donation". Today charities see very little of the money raised. Most of it goes to the companies that call you.

from my experience these kind of people are jerks and their strategy is based on you not being a jerk. I've met quite a few. there are somewhere desperate people who really need help and do desperate actions, but i did not meet those.
So it's important to say no, no need to feel guilty about it. Just to be in safe side you can say, "I'm really sorry, but I can't help you." - no need for additional details, no lies.
