we have a 2 year old... I think it would be a great time to have another. But, hubby says around 41/2 would be good... what do you think/have experienced?

from what i've seen, a gap of 2-3 years is good. that way, they're close enough in age that they can still relate and get along well, but there's still enough of an age difference that one will have the clearly defined role of the older sibling.

Hey there,
I have children myself and am a foster mother now that mine are all teens. Mine were spanned like this: 22 months between #1 and #2 14.5 months between #2 and #3 and 22 months between #3 and #4.
SO! They were 2, 4,5 and7 yrs old at one point and now they are 11, 13,14 and 16. I recommend at least a 2yr span between each child. It really is great for us now even though ours were a little less than that apart. They are all very close, have the same interests, have alot of the same friends, Brother can beat up any misbehaving boyfriends of his sisters (lol, J/K) I am really glad that we had ours close together but like I said, i think 2 years apart is better than closer because the older sibbling to the newborn will not be a "baby" anymore and is more ready to handle a little bro or sis.
However....I had one of mine totally potty trained and off the bottle but when the baby came home from the hospital, she reverted back to pottying her pants. The first time she did it, she brought my hubby a diaper and said, "I a baby too daddy, change me". Grant it, she was 22 months old and not a full 2yrs but you might experience this type of jealosuy with your oldest. Just be sure he gets alot of his own special time being the big boy helper etc.

Best of luck on planning your additon...

P.S my sis has 4 kids also and purposely has spanned them 2yrs apart. She is very pleased that she did.

I have three children and they are all about 2 1/2 yrs apart. I was able to have that precious babytime with each of them, and they were potty trained before the next one was born. We wanted them to grow up together. My husband and I are both 4yrs older than our next sib. and never really connected with them as our children seem to with each other. Besides, you should wait at least one year between pregancies so your body can build back vitamin and mineral stores to promote a healthy preganancy.

I think 2 because the kids could be closer because they could be in the same school and protect and help each other. Your husband thinks the age is 5 because maybe he is thinking about college. Two kids at the same age going to college will cost you both.

I COME FROM A FAMILY OF 7. MY SISTERS AND BROTHER ARE AROUND 2 YRS APAART FROM EACH OTHER. THEY ALL GREW UP TOGETHER......IN SCHOOL THERE WAS ALWAYS ONE IN EACH SCHOOL,ONE GOING INTO MIDDLE AND ONE INTO HIGH. I CAME 6 YEARS AFTER MY BROTHER AND I FEEL THEY WERE LUCKEY TO HAVE EACH OTHER AASK YOUR HUSBAND TO PUT HIMSELF IN YOUR CHILDS SHOES AND GO FROM THERE. WOULD HE RATHER GROW UP WITH A FRIEND OR A TODDLER GETTING INTO YOUR STUFF?CLOSE IS BETTER FOR THE KIDS BUT NOT 4 MOM DOING ALL THE WORK................

2 yrs. Its enough time for the body to heal and the children will still be able to be playmates to eachother.
