There are a number strategies that I've found to work when you put them all together.
1) Eat slowly. It takes about 10 to 20 minutes for your body to get the signal that you ate and don't need to eat anymore. If you can tolerate lactose, drink a half glass of non-fat milk or have some low-carb non fat yogurt before meals to "spoil" your appetite.
2) Eat 5 or 6 small meals per day instead of the usual.
3) Eat when you feel physically hungry and stop when the need to eat is gone. Use a hunger scale, 1 to 10, where 1 is starving and 5 is comfortable. Don't eat til you get to 3 and stop when you get back to 5.
4) Stay away from quickly digested foods (high sugar context, highly processed carbs). Stay away from foods with a high glycemic index. Here's a website where you can check the GL of foods: http://www.glycemicindex.com/
5) Lots of low carb veggies will fill you up, not out.
6) Last, but not least is exercise. You cannot sustain a weight loss program without exercise. You must change your lifestyle in order to keep it off. The human body was designed to perform physical activity and when it doesn't, it gets fat. The only way to avoid this is to stay pregnant and nursing your entire life. So, since you have to do exercise anyway, you might as well start while you're dieting. It will make the weight come off faster. Shoot for 100 minutes of exercise per week. Walking is fine, but if you do it too slowly, you will need more than 100 minutes / week.
The optimum weight loss rate is considered to be a pound a week. You need a calorie deficit of 3500 in order to lose a pound of fat. Unless you are a teenage boy or are doing hours of exercise each day, your body only burns about 1500 to 2000 cal per day. If you severely restrict calories, your body thinks it is starving and starts lowering your metabolism.
Diets that have higher weight loss rates are probably causing you to lose muscle tissue not fat. Since fat is burned by your muscle tissue, it's a no-win situation.

I think more important than all these strategies is motivation. It's so important that you're in the right mindset, and that is POSITIVE. The problem with diets is that if you fail, you feel bad about yourself and give up.
You should concentrate on that wonderful feeling when you put your hand round your waist and can feel it reducing. Picture yourself slim. Think and read about the health benefits of the good foods (fresh fruit and vegetables!), and eat LOTS of it, it won't make you fat. For inspiration, look at this site: http://www.whfoods.com/
And if you've given in and eaten a huge piece of cream cake, forget it and start over instead of feeling a failure.
Discover the enjoyment of exercise . It accelerates the speed of you metabolism even when resting, because metabolism is determined by the muscle/fat ratio in your body. More muscle tissue burns more calories per hour.
Also, intensive aerobic exercise does burn lots of calories while exercising and for a few hours afterwards. I've found that when I do spinning classes at a gym I can take in more calories without putting on weight! Just consult with your doctor first, and start slowly, getting fit very gradually.
Don't think of exercise as punishment. It isn't, our bodies have been designed to move. It's only punishment if you drive it too far if you're not fit yet, which is why you should take it slow at first. Be kind to yourself, and enjoy the feeling you have afterwards as a result of your body secreting endorphins (feel-good hormones) while you were exercising.
Consider this: the quality of your life will double, maybe triple...

ok, i lost 45 lbs doing this, try not to eat a lot of carbs, stop drinking sodas and drink water instead, don't eat out for 45 days, don't eat man made sugar or anything with sugar. Eat until you are full not stuff. try to walk for 45 Min's every day, running is bad for your knees and you lose just as much walking. when you walk start slow and pick up the pace as you walk and try to walk faster each day. if you lose a pound a day then in 30 days you would have lose 30 pounds. try not to eat after 5:00 pm but if you do feel the need to eat make it something like a grapefruit of something and drink water. and at least three time a week i did an aerobic work out. hope this helps you out and good luck

I just started a new program this past Wednesday. Have you heard of the pill "Fahrenheit"??? That's what I've been taking. And, I just weighed myself today and measured my bust, waist, hips, thigh, calf and arm, and so far (within 2 days) I've lost 4 inches! I feel great. Last time I weighed myself was on Wednesday when I started it and I weighed 145 pounds. I don't have a scale right now, so I don't know how much weight I have lost. The people and Modulators will help you with ANY questions and all that you have. I want to be down to around 115-120 pounds by the end of April, so hopefully I will get there. They have a meal plan too to go with it. I feel great..... go to the website and check it all out for yourslelf. People have before and after pics up there too. If you're interested in it, sign up with them (it's free). Let me know if you have anymore questions. I'm on that site too. email me if you have any problems or anything. Good Luck!

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

The answer seems simple enough: ration the amount you eat per sitting and try some exercise.Walking is great for a non active person.Don't expect overnight results.Remember,it took time for you to gain this weight,it will take time to lose it as well. You should stay away from fast food because it's full of fat.But you need protein to maintain the lean muscle mass as opposed to absorbing it.Try tuna and other lean meats. Some people find success in the "caveman"diet. No carbs, just seems mostly meat.Get a sandwich and rip the bread off.Seems highly dangerous to me to eat all of the fat,but to each their own.I would recommend a diet of veggies flavored with boneless, skinless chicken breast and gallons of water to flush out the crap you may have put in your body.

My biggest foe is sodas. If you drink them, just moving to diet wasn't enough for me. Also make your own lunch at home and take it with you even if you plan to be home. I find myself "out and about" and hungry and eat out more often than is healthy. Also this may be weird but, i am a super picky eater as well as having many food allergies, i found one dish i like and i just eat it alot. A combination of "tricks" has helped me to lose a fair amount of weight in the past. Drink a full 8 ounces of water before a meal, during and after. With your stomach full of water, you eat less. Trick number two, Eat dinner at the start of your day, that's when you need the largest and longest lasting boost of energy. Third and last known effective trick thats EASY, take your regular meal and take half off your plate, put it in a ziplock or tupperware deal and in the fridge it goes. You're still allowed to eat it, just eat it later when you've worked off what you ate earlier.... When eating out, order the kids meal version. That's the diet portion. Sadly excersize is a must. Since I hate doing this I am trying to add in excersize type stuff without commiting an hour block of my day to nothing but that. I take the stairs. I make two trips when one would suffice. And when no one is looking I practice Stripper dances. The muscle you gain from moving in the super slo-mo sexy poses helps to burn twice as much fat. I know I could lose quicker if I'd just get on the treadmill or in the pool. But who has time and inclination....?

Its not about cutting carbs. Complex carbs are important, chick peas are a source of complex carbs. There are no simple answers here. Eat in moderation, eats lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and very little lean meat. Eat compex-carbs but again do so in moderation. Avoid refined flour such a enriched flour, corn syrup. This should be a life long practice losing weight comes naturally when you follow good eating habits. And get your emotional well being in order.

You need to make habit changes:
Exercise at least 30 - 60 minutes a day (yes, walking counts).
Eat breakfast. It starts your body's metabolism early.
Don't starve yourself, being hungry leads to bad food choices.
Drink lots of water, forget about soda and juice.
Eat vegetables and lean meat.
Get enough sleep.
Don't expect the pounds to drop quickly. Actual weight loss takes time and patience. It's worth it, right?
