This has happened to me a few times and I wasn't sure if I should have called 911 or the local (state) *HP number...

A few times, people have cut me off and made signs, threatening and even slowing down below 40 mph in total road rage. Once the guy even started crossing lanes, blocking my way, and holding me from keep my way. This happened at the very left lane and even when I was 5 miles over the speed limit.

I personally couldn't care less about their fingers or gestures, but slowing down and cutting off is just unacceptable, and especially dangerous. Is there a number that we can call to report their license plates and so?

It's amazing how cops are never around when these offenders are unleashed...

First off just because you are going 5 over the speed limit doesn't mean that you should be in the left lane, the left lane is for passing. This guy may have wanted to pass you. Of course that doesn't justify his behavior. The best way to stop road rage is to not encourage it, if someone wants to pass you let them. If they are going too fast let them run that risk.
In Colorado the number to report road rage from a cellular phone is *CSP I'm not sure what it is in your state.

Of course the cops aren't around, they wouldn't be doing that if they were! I've seen some jerks do that before, and there's not much that you can do by just getting a license plate. Imagine if that was all you needed to get someone in trouble. If you pissed me off, I'd take your license plate number, call the cops and report you for some made-up crap. So what do you want the cops to do? Take your word for it? No, you need proof, or you need to let the cops catch him. Only way to do that is to dial 911. But just angering you and cutting you off isn't a reason for them to go after him either. So tell them he's swerving all over the place and you suspect he's drunk, and you think you saw him drinking from what looked like a beer bottle because then they will want to stop him.

Just stop worrying about other drivers. Calling 911 for a guy that cut you off is idiotic. No one is 100% perfect driver! Including yourself. For example maybe you drive slow, if you took the other posters advice of making some BS up and then tell the cops that. The cops may or may not investigate. How would you like to be pulled over by the cops for some false accusations that because some other driver disliked your driving habits and called 911.

Its unfortunate that there are bad, slow, direspectfull drivers. The cops dont have the manpower to chase every licence plate they get from someone that cut off another car.

Get over it!

Most states have a phone number posted on signs to report such things. Check your state's Highway Patrol/State Police web site to get more info, & write that number down. If the person is actually threatening you in any way or flashing a weapon of any kind, you have every right to call 911 (or similar emergency number).

Call the police and report it as an "erratic operator". I have before, and if you give them enough info to work off of (i.e. license plate, direction of travel, make/model, etc.) they WILL take it seriously.
