first off.... the ends will become thinner.Split ends occur when the cuticle is damanged & the fibres of the cortex unravel. The hair is dry, brittle, & prone to tangling, & can split at the end or anywhere along the shaft. The causes can be over-perming or colouring, insufficient conditioning, or too much brushing or backcombing, especially with poor quality combs or brushes. Split endes can't be mended;the only long term cure is to have them snipped off. What is lost in the length will be gained in quality. It may help to reduce the frequency with which you shampoo & this in itself is stressful to hair & causes split ends to extend up the hair shaft....... Mail me for more info.... Dar

the same as when you pull a part of you skin of eg. you have a cuticle that is split and you start picking at it and then you tear you skin that is painfull, with you hair the same happens just whithout the pain you dammage you hair futher you expose the cuticle of you hair to direct sunlight and then you hair turns brittle rather go to the hairdresser to have a trim that will get all the dead ends and your hair will look healthy and will grow faster.

The strands just get thinner, better to snip them off than to peel them.
