I want to put a ceiling fan in my sons bedroom but I am not sure if I have to do anything to reinforce the ceiling or not?

HOLY CRAP! do not listen to the first answer!!!!! unless you want your son to be hit with a falling ceiling fan while he is sleeping. you have to have a box that is rated to hold the weight of a ceiling fan. they are fairly inexpensive and if you have any DIY knowledge, are fairly easy to install. there are several different types, some of which you can install from the bottom, others you will have to get into the attic. just take down the light that is in there now, and pull down the box that is there (unless it is already rated for a fan. it will say so if it is) See what you have to work with, and go to the home improvement store and pick out the best one to suit the application. Hope this helps, let me know if you need more help

No. Just make sure you attach the junction box that connects and holds the ceiling fan to the side of ceiling joist with strong fasteners, i.e. at least 4 good size wood screws, not nails. Never mount the fan on dry wall part of the ceiling alone.
