Say you just start dating someone, and you get together with friends that are either married, or with their date/boyfriend/etc. and you end up all going out for dinner. With your friends, the guys are paying for their loved one... but you're still at this point not sure about where the guy you are dating stands on things.

If it was just the two of you, offering to help pay the bill is easy... but in the case of doing it infront of the group, then what? (its catch 22 -- are you sending him the message of "oh I just expect it of you" or are you sending him the message in front of all your friends "oh, with this guy I feel as if I have to take care of myself"?)

If he cares about you at all he would save you from any embarrassment in from of your friends and pay. Watch him carefully, but not obviously, when it comes time to pay. If he is looking to you for your share, then he obviously doesn't care much for you.

The two guys should pay. Then afterward, if you want to give your B/F some money, go ahead. That way there is no emasculation perceived.

Everyone should pay their own bill. That way there's no confusion.
