I'm currently in Grade 10 and living in Canada. I really want to move to Australia or New Zealand in about three or four years. Me and my friend have talked about moving together and working their for a couple years, perhaps even becoming citizens.

I really need to know what I'll need to do to make this happen - and where I should go. NZ or AUS? What do I need to do to work there and / or get citizenship? Thanks for any help.

G'day,

Geee... you think and start early. Good! I had not thought about migrating until I finish uni. Now I've been living in Melbourne, Oz for 16years and loving it.

You are now Grade 10 and wanting to move in 3 or 4 yrs, which means that you may be in the middle of your uni study (if you are going to uni of course). If you do, then yes.... exchange studies is the best choice for you, since you can continue your study while experiencing living in the country of your initial choice. While studying, you can then visit the other country for holiday. As you are a Canadian citizen (I assume), getting an extension of your visa or residence permit will not be too hard.

If you are thinking of coming straight after high school to look for a job, I'm afraid it's abit hard. Altho alot of ppl will tell you that higher educations do not promise a job for you, employers and immigration are still highly regarding education qualification as the first step of migration or employment.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I am originally from Australia, but now living in New Zealand. I am 22.
I see that you are still young, so the best way to get here would be through a school exchange program. You could come here for a year or something and check it out. If you cant do it through school then try an exchange program. The only thing you will need is a VISA and some money. Other than that (and a place to live) you should be fine.
Australia is better for jobs and has sunnier weather.
New Zealand is more relaxed and better scenery.

Marry me an Australian born citizen, just kidding. You will have to undergo a skills test and health checks before you come to Australia, but Australia has many more opportunities for work and better pay. We are currently undergoing a skills shortage, so you will find a job somewhere.

I wish you luck and pay me a visit when you come lol

The easiet thing to do is to marry a citezen from either country if you want to stay.
However if lets say you want to say in Australia you will be allowed to stay there on a permanent basis if you can show you have $150,000 to invest there.
Otherwise apply for a work visa and keep your fingers crossed!
