I won't tell you that they hurt, but they are very uncomfortable when you first get them. Then after they tighten them you will be sore for a day or two. The pain is NOT unbearable, just slightly discomforting. They are, however, well worth the slight pain they cause.

Getting braces doesn't hurt. It's getting them tightened and adjusted monthly that hurts. Even then, it is more like a dull pain and will go away within a couple of days. Just take an over-the-counter pain reliever in the mean time. Trust me...it will definitely be worth it in the long run. I had braces as a kid and I always get complemented on my teeth and smile. Now, if I hadn't had braces I'd have horrible teeth.

I have had braces, and ARCH BARS as a result of surgery to the jaw, and YES they both hurt! Not only that, but they do cause your teeth to move (that's why you get them!), but this puts your jaw joints in unnatural positions, which can lead to more pain and anguish & possibly SURGERY. You must first and foremost CHECK OUT YOUR orthodontist, and DISCUS your treatment plans and concerns. Make sure braces are absolutely necessary. Granted, some people need braces, but some do not! Make sure your orthodontist knows your fears about post-positioning PAIN, and what (if anything) he/she plans to do for you, should the pain become too severe! Again, DOUBLE CHECK his/her credentials. There are good orthodontists, and some really BAD ONES! GO to the DENTAL BOARD in your state and check them out! Check for current credentials, demerits, or other actions taken AGAINST THEM & HOW FAR BACK THOSE RECORDS GO! Have they been suspended? Do not make this a haphazard decision, nor UNDERESTIMATE YOUR CONCERNS! Orthodontists go through more training than just your regular dentist, but some have had BAD RECORDS TOO as well as some excellent ones! Take my advice and CHECK THEM OUT BEFORE MAKING A DECISION! It could cost you BIG TIME in the long run! SEVERE PAIN is the single most UNDERTREATED problem in the whole medical community! And dental pain is excrusiating! Be careful! Check them out FIRST ~~~~~~A former Pain sufferer from BRACES and the jaw movement directly caused by them!!

Your teeth will be sore for a day or so but you need to think about the effects down the road. If you don't get the braces your could wind up with worse problems later on in life. If your dentist and ortho think you need braces then you would be wise to do it now to save you some mouth pain later when you need more corrective surgery to fix what is wrong because you skipped getting braces.

Pain is one of those things that you forget. I had braces for two years and I remember that it hurt at first for about two days but honestly I don't remember it hurting after that even when I had them tightened. Having braces is more pressure than pain. Personally the pain is worth it because straight teeth are great lol.

I had braces for two years and it doesn't hurt that much. I mean it will hurt some because they make your teeth move. But that's only after they change the wire. And it only lasts for about 2 days at most.

yes, braces hurt. The actual act of putting them on does not hurt. It hurts when they tighten the braces to help move your teeth. I had them for almost 2 years. They hurt, but nothing that tylenol or advil didnt help. Get the braces. They are soooo worth it.

I't hurts for about afew weeks and then i's only sore after being tightened. at first, eat super soft things like applesause. also, there are a few things you can't eat such as gum. However, you should get braces because they relly are working on me. They are sooo worth the pain.

Actually getting them on doesn't hurt, but tightening, and changes that move your teeth will cause soreness and pain. You can stop the pain by taking Advil or Tylenol. Try not to take to many pain meds though, because I did and it make my stomach feel horrible on top of the pain.

The process of having the bracket put on your teeth does not hurt. By the time you get home from the dentist, there is some pain, because your teeth are adjusting to them. The pain is not unbearable!
