Benjamin Franklin said God helps those who help themselves

CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS - "This ancient proverb is said by some to have come from ancient Hebrew writings. However, its first appearance in English - though in slightly altered form - seems to be in the writings of Francis Bacon.

God Bless You

In the Bible it only appears as consonants YHWH (otherwise known as the Tetragrammaton, link!). It is thought that some sects thought the name of God was too holy to even be written out. But here's the rub - nobody anymore remembers what the vowels are supposed to be. This means that the 'Yahweh' construction is purely hypothetical. I've seen others (like 'Jehovah') that connect it to other traditions. So either the former reason (it wasn't spelled out for a reason) or the latter (nobody really knows how to spell it out) is probably why it still gets excluded.

This site of misquoted quotes is terrific:

This is the thing to fear about all religions - anything can be misquoted or interpreted to fit a context agreeable to the so-called "quoter". There have also been many incarnations of the Bible throughout the centuries.

*birds* - Where does the Bible mention gays or use the word "homosexuality" at all?

All text is up to interpretation if not already proven, and thus inerrant.

"If you want to justify or 'prove' your lame argument, just pull out some tired aphorism, claim that 'it's in th Bible' and that that makes it above reproach. You won't win the argument, but you'll _feel_ like you have." -- Not in the Bible
