The Church existed before the Bible, before the New Testament. Satan himself used scripture to tempt our Lord and it is a fact that people pervert scripture. Ga 1:6-8 Paul says some converts pervert the gospel: I am surprised at you! In no time at all you are deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ, and are accepting another gospel. Actually, there is no “other gospel,” but I say this because there are some people who are upsetting you and trying to change the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel that is different from the one we preached to you may he be condemned to hell!
Eph 3:5 In past times mankind was not told this secret, but God has revealed it now by the Spirit to his holy apostles and prophets.”
1 Co 4:1 Paul says, “You should think of us [apostles] as Christ’s servants, who have been put in charge of God’s secret truths.”

Eph 3:9-10 It is through God's church (which has apostolic succession) that the messages of the Gospel is revealed: and of making all people see how God’s secret plan is to be put into effect. God, who is the Creator of all things, kept his secret hidden through all the past ages, in order that at the present time, by means of the church, that angelic rulers and powers in the heavenly world might learn of his wisdom in all its different forms.

Read Chapter One of The Gospel of John.
It says " in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God...."
Please read the whole chapter.
The Word of God is what the Source of Authority comes from, which is Jesus. He and the Word are One and the Same. He is the Alpha and the Omega. The Word was and it was in the beginning long before Adam an Eve were created. The bible itself is just a book. But the Word of God is living. Jesus is the LIving Word.
There is no doubt in my mind that God spoke and said Let there be light and there was light.
God is the Source of my authority.

The Bible is the Truth, and a Love Letter from God. The church itself did not start up until Acts. When men distort the truth, they are changing the Bible to say what they believe it says. Only the Holy Spirit can show you the truth. Satan knows the Bible, and he will do everything in his power to destroy God's Word. There are people out here that say you have to do works to get to heaven. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life, no man comes unto the Father but by me. (Him). People say you have to baptized, you have to speak in tongues, you have to have a whole bunch of Spiritual gifts or you can't go to heaven. That is why people need to get into their Bibles and read the truth. Not take a passage out of context, and make it say what they want it to say.

it's a good question. i think if you are going to base religious decisions on one or the other, i would say read the bible and judge it for your self. like the scripture even says, people pervert the scripture, for their own will. their are so many churches that do that very thing...why do you think there are so many religions, or sub religions...Catholics, Babtists, Mormons, Presbeterian(?), etc etc, and those are "christan" religions. if you have questions about the bible, i would suggest you find someone you know and trust to explain it to you. but other than that, don't take others word for it, if your going to believe the bible, believe the bible. not people who "preach" the bible because they are of the flesh and often have perverted minds.

Jesus Christ is the source of authority.
He gives authority to those who He sees fit. For example, he gave authority to his 12 apostles to preach and run His church during His mortal ministry. He has given authority to many people throughout time, including prophets who wrote the Bible and the authors of other scriptures. This authority can be given by laying on of hands by those who hold it. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been authorized by Jesus Christ to administer His ordinances to the people of the world. This means that members of this church who hold authority from Jesus Christ have the ability to do certain ceremonies that He commands, such as baptism. The current prophet who has the authority from Jesus Christ to lead His church is Gordon B. Hinckley. Learn more here: www.mormon.org.

God is the source of authority, however he expects us to work as a body of believers and study his word for instruction. through his word you can see if the body you are attached to is within his will, when you receive teaching or instruction it should fall in line with the bible and be able to stand up to the challenge, nothing can be added or taken away from his writing. if you cannot justify the teaching you receive from the church through the word and those teaching it are not willing to give scriptural back up for their teaching then find another church.

The Bible is the ultimate authority with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The church can't separate from those two.

the temple, church building was established before the Bible was put together as we know it today.
However, the Bible is the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth...therefore the authority comes from the Bible, not a church building today, not in the Old Testament.

Bible. I select my fellowship based on whether they teach the Bible (or not). This is why I don't attend a Catholic or Episcopalian meeting . . . too much of man's writing and not enough of God's.
Oh, and Scripture existed many centuries before the church was born on Pentecost.
