Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species was released in 1859. From this point until now, what time period (in America) marks the greatest resistance and rejection of Darwin's theory of evolution since its release. This rejection includes both scientists and popular audiences.

Has everyone missed Darwins last paragraph in "The Origin of the Species" - He said that the Creator was responsible for the evolutionary processes.

Note: Darwin also presented volumes of data about male and female genders in all species, and he concluded that each evolution included a male becomming mutated and starting the evolutionary change.

I think most people are confused. They seem to be thinking about Darwin's second treatise "The Fall of man?"

There has never been a time when significant amounts of scientists have rejected Darwin's ideas. As for the general public, there have always been people who have been misled by their relgious leaders, however perhaps they're more vocal thanever because they feel more empowered at the moment than they have in several generations.

To another answerer, hospitals prove nothing. It's not about the 'application' of the concept of 'survival of the fittest'. That we care for the sick (as do many other species) is an example of _how_ we 'fit' our environment. That our hospitals have helped put six billion of us on the planet is a very good example of how 'the survival of the fittest' still applies to us. It was never intended to be a moral code - that's just another perversion of Darwin's work by his enemies.

I've not heard any legitimate scientists reject all of Darwin. Since the early 1980s, when the religionists started making their big push to take over society, I've noticed the increasing rejection of a lot of scientific knowledge and theory, in favor of the biblical tales, with an emphasis on teaching the doctrine of Creationism, renamed "Intelligent Design," in publicly funded schools. I find it distressing that in the dawn of the 21st century there are still people who believe in the bible fairy tales, in spite of the mountainous evidence and new discoveries made every day (heard from Australia lately?) supporting evolution.

Our medical system is the biggest rejection of Darwin's 'Survival of the fittest' theory. We are the only species on the planet that takes the time to care for the weaker members of our species. We take the time to nurture and care for those who would otherwise be cast out of the pack or killed to ensure the survival of the race.

We took his theory and applied to everyone but ourselves.

Right after its release he had to convince the entire (largely Biblical) scientific community that it was real at once...read the book and you will see how he did it.

It greatest acceptance came when it became our official national religion, and was used to indoctrinate kids in school. Contrary to their parents beliefs, the kids now learned that their great, great, great, great grandfather was an ape.
