Running can help your quads, hams, and calves develop if done correctly. For calf development take short strides. To develop quads long strides. For hamstring development you must sprint and make sure that you are kicking up in a backwards motion. (nearly kicking yourself in the buttocks)
An excellent leg developer is to do skip to my lou. The key to development is to bring your knees as high as you can. Try to bring them up to your chest. These will work every thing from the waist down.
Other ways to develop your legs is to do squats. They can either be done with or without weights. If done without weights you should do far more reps than you would have if you had used weights.
With weights also do squats, they are the overall leg builder. Other key exercises are leg extensions, hamstring curls, and calf raises.
Hope these exercises work for you, GOOD LUCK!!!

By far the best exercises for gaining muscle in the hamstrings and quadriceps are the squat and deadlift. If you have access to a good trainer (not at 24hour fitness or Bally's or something) then ask them to teach you. Otherwise stick with the legpress and hack squat machine. Don't get caught up in leg extensions and curls.

If you do not exercise at all your quadriceps and hamstrings may get slightly larger from running but take a look at all the pro marathon runners. Notice how skinny their legs are?

Now, take a look at any olympic level sprinter. Notice a difference between them and the marathon runners? If you chose not to lift weights to gain muscle then keep your running to sprint distances (i.e. short and fast with breaks in between sprints).

Yes. U can do weight training.

Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to gain/shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span. No food or drink in between the food and not more than three meals a day, unless u r diabetic.

Oh yea, running helps a lot more muscles than that. Just keep running, maybe lift some weights (to build muscles faster) and you will get what you put into it.

Yes, running will increase your muscle mass. Its a cardiac exercise building muscle and burning fat. Try to change up your exercises so you don't become bored and your body doesn't reach a physical plateau. Try the stair-stepper or hitting the local gym to use their equipment.
