ok there is this girl. its apparent she likes me, she is almost exactly 1 year older than me. the thing is i dont love her, i just like her, i enjoy her company, the attitude, the way she acts, etc. personally i just want a friendship, im not sure what she feels on this, and to complicate matter everyone just assumes that she is my girlfriend. so my question is what would you do in that situation?

well if you like her company than she must be a good friend you might like in the future so don't blow the chance just delay it. but how people assumes that she is your gf that happens to me i say no she isn't i dont' like her but this is different this is your friend here a very good friend

just tell her that you are more interested in being friends. You have to let her know how you feel instead of giving her mixed signals etc. She may be hurt by it, but you basically need to let her know that she is a great girl, and everything you said above (that you like her attitude, the way she acts and you enjoy her company) but you don't want to get involved because you don't want to risk losing what you already have. Many females need reassurance, so if you make her feel cared for, even if you don't want a relationship, she should accept it.

There's nothing wrong with having friends, and having fun with people who you like hanging out with. Still, have you thought about seeing other people? When your friends see you taking another girl out, they'll know that the other girl is not your girlfriend.
Also, your friend might be giving these friends of yours the impression that you are more than just friends. Don't be lazy. Get out and see other girls.

find out how you really feel. I felt the same way about someone, and spent a month trying to see if i truely liked her. and bam someone else asked her out, and it brought it home that i really did. And now im crushed.
I say ask her out saying that you really wanna spend time with her, but your not sure if u want to make it a relationship. Say you want to get to know her, and that you like her so much that you dont want to ruin anything between you two by rushing in
i cant see her taking that badly at all

Well, if she is a good friend, than maybe try talking to her to find out how she feels about you. Maybe she doesn't want anything serious and you guys end up together. She seems to be really nice, and in my opinion, if the person is a good friend, she will be a good girlfriend for you to as well.
So, my point is: talk to her and see what she thinks about the situation too.
And when people mistake her by your girlfriend, just try to be polite and correct them

stay friends, and if it goes any farther be straight up, tell her "i don't like you like that, i like you like a friend" it works BELIEVE ME...lol
