A lot of people are more interested in the temporary ethereal pleasures of the flesh [sin]. Rather than the eternal pleasures with Christ the Lord.
They are people who "live for the moment" often not even giving note to the reprocussions of such a life.
Then some know they are sinning, and either do not care, or they believe they have time to repent. However the Bible tells us His coming will be in the Twinkling of an Eye.
And then you have the ones who have heard the Word of God and what it teaches, and they simply try to ignore it by filling their lives with other things. They use excuses for their actions, when approached about the subject, and use a carnal/mortal reply to try to not believe their actions will have dire consequences.

I don't think that people choose to go to hell over heaven, I just think that they get wrapped up in the sin that allows them the temporary release in the everyday problems that happen. I don't think it's an excuse but sin is fun but it soon fades into a depressed stage causing you to fall deeper and deeper into sin.

Hell's got Einstein, Lincoln and Ghandi.
Actually, from a serious perspective I would pick neither if I had a choice and heaven if absolutely necessary.

Because they are wicked and hate the things of God. They are rebellious at heart and full of selfish pride. Their greatest joy comes from satisfying themself whether it be through alcohol, posessions, sex, or whatever. They reject God's call to salvation and they want nothing to do with Him. After death, they ultimately get what they wanted: life without God. They would not enjoy being with the saints of heaven, so they end up with the wicked in hell.

Because it's a much easier journey compared to the latter
and because people are just not ready to give up this material world.

It's hard to choose hell when it doesn't exist.

No one does... those that "choose" it likely don't believe in such things and are just being sarcastic toward those that don't GET that they don't believe in it.
