There are two very different types of conditions that commonly cause this problem: (1) low blood pressure; and (2) inner ear problem.

Low blood pressure causes a phenomenon called orthostatic hypotension - big words for 'low blood pressure when you stand up quickly.' There's nothing wrong when this happens briefly. There is something wrong if the condition lasts for more than a few minutes.

Inner ear problems are more likely to last a few days. Colds, allergies and hereditary conditions are common causes of ear problems that cause vertigo or lightheadness.

There are also many other things that can cause these symptoms, its a good idea to make a visit to the doc.

Try the following for anxiety... the lightheadedness might be that your hearts racing and your not breathing properly in an attack, the following tips i learnt might help you; Drink ice cold water, it hits a nerve at the back of the throat and slows the heart down. I take propanalol to ease the shaking and slow my heart down. Its a beta blocker. Breathe in for 4 and out for 4, put your hand on your tummy and when you breathe in push the hand out. This is to make sure you are breathing deeply. Do this for a while until you feel calmer. Focus on every little small minute detail around you. If you look at a chair, notice the bolts in it, the texture of the fabric, the smallest detail in the pattern etc. I learnt these at a private psych hospital i was in. Valarian root is a natural sedative used to treat anxiety and insomnia. You can buy it in health shops or online. I hope this helps!! and get some counseling as the other techniques will only help short term, they wont stop you getting the anxiety attacks. Hugs

Have you gone to your Dr? I would, and tell him what you're experiencing. He should have you get an MRI of your brain. i had a stoke 3 yrs. ago, and prior to that happening, i had occassional loss of balance, dizziness & headaches. Come to find out after my illness, that i had a malformed blood vessel in my brain, that burst. Plus i had high blood pressure. I don't know how old you are, but i would seek medical attention.
