Why would one lie about such a thing?
Anyway, if you know the source of your depression try to take your mind off of it. Do something fun, spend time with a loved one, eat.
Well try not to eat... You'll get fat.
If you don't know the source that is much harder. If you really don't want to take a drug try a psychiatrist. Or try to talk out with someone about something sad that happened. Even if you think it isn't the cause, it very well be. That's also cheaper!
Best of luck

Try a light box. If you live in an area that does not have too many sunny days, you could be suffering from a lack of light. Or, look into natural remedies with a naturopathic doctor. Often times depression is a symptom of an intolerance to additives in the food we eat. Also, try to exercise more! There is nothing like a good work-out to get the endorphines up. See if you can join a gym and take group aerobic classes for fun. Also, get outside and do some nature walks. This helps me.
Do you go to church? Maybe you need God in your life.....we are body, soul, and spirit. If any one of these areas are not being taken care of, problems may arise, depression being one of them. I wish you well.

Well that would depend allot of what type of depression symptoms you have. But here are some general tips.
With it being winter the lack of sunlight can make depression worse. You can buy a light bulb that is used plants for about $5 at most hardware stores and places like Walmart. The simulated sunshine can help.
Also various herbs and vitamins can help. My husband takes L-tyrosine and it has helped him quite a bit. Otherwise getting out of the house, exercising, eating right can be helpful.

Xanax is not for depression - but used more for treating anxiety. Anti depressants generally help people recover from clinical depression. If you really don't want to take these - there is St. John's Wort - which is a herbal remedy. Therapy has been very effective in treating depression as well.

The brain function is relying on its chemicals , when you have gone through a lot of stress or because of hormonal change in your body such as child birth or menstrual period some chemicals of the brain get deficient and there is no way to replace them except by taking a proper medication for 3-6 months to let them to restore again...by other way in your life you might bring the level of stress in your life down but your depression will not go unless you treat it with medication.

Depends. If your depression is caused by a chemical imbalance you need xanax (or something) to get rid of it. If you are suffering from emotional depression, find someone (a close friend or counselor) to vent to. Talk until you get to the bottom of whatever it is you are upset about. Talk about the things you don't want to even think about. Get them out, feel whatever anger, fear, sorrow or whatever emotion it is, and you will feel better.

Depressin is a neurochemical balance. Even with either talk or behavioural therapy, you still need to correct the imbalance, and that necessitates the use of chemical assistance of some type.

put effort into life, actually do stuff, meet people go places. depression is really just your way of telling yourself to move and get active.
not really, but just do this stuff because depression is bad for your health.
