I believe you are referring to Gregor Mendel who lived in the 1800's.
Genetics is sometimes called Mendelian Genetics.

The problem, though, is that plant breeding does not explain the origins of life.
18th century science had no concept of DNA, which is present in the cell. The presence of DNA, which controls the makeup of every living thing, is unexplainable by Darwinism.
