( especially Cayenne pepper ) this stings a little but doesn't hurt for more than a few seconds and is a good safe deterant. Sometimes when a dog excessively chews on plants, grass etc.. they have a sensitive stomach or are lacking something in their diet. The vet can give you medicine for the tummy problems, and you might try changing the dog food to something that has added vit. min. and probiotics. Also we have used hot pepper powders spread on the ground around abjects we don't want dogs to dig in or around that might help to keep him away from particular shrubs or plants.

I know that at some certain stores you can buy like a pepper spray. It is usually used for squirrels as a taste deterrent from eating bird seed, but I would look it up and see what you could find out on it. What you would do is most likely just spray it on the area the dog is chewing.
Another thing you could try to do is make some sort of citrusy spray with lemons. Put it in a squirt bottle and spray the hedge. Dogs aren't too fond of citrus or peppery things. I would definitely check out more on the pepper spray and make sure it will be okay for dogs. GOod luck

Dogs that dig and chew lack entertainment or enrichment. As well as the obvious things like walking him try buying him toys and especially hide bits of food and things that smell different around the yard like sticks from the beach. The dog will spend all its time hunting around and exploring. Wont be board anymore and besides just saving your hedge you will enrich your dogs boring life.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/4p1q5
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Our dogs are the same way. They eat sticks, flower bulbs, small bushes, etc and our dogs are chihuahuas. They bring rocks in all the time and chew on them but the rocls are too big for them to swallow. Sometimes I think they just like to hear them hit the floor when they drop them.

I think there are certain types of sprays available that shouldn't damage plants, but have a bitter taste and deter the pet from eating the bushes.

Try giving him some toys. You know what I bet would work those toys that you put treats in and the dog has to get them out.

You may want to switch to designated eating times. If that doesn't work, try crating the dog that is eating all the food. When I adopted my male dog, he would ALWAYS try to eat my female pup's food. Once I got them both on the same eating schedule, he left her food alone. Try feeding both dogs twice a day. And keep working with the dog that eats and eats. Tell him no when he eats from the other dogs bowl. Eventually the message will sink in.
