He's not being *forced* to apologize. He's been given a simple choice. He wants something: to keep his job and his good reputation in Hollywood. The price of that something, with mainstream Americans, is to *not* be rudely and publicly bigoted about certain lifestyles--especially not on an award-winning television show with a reputation for promoting diversity. If he believed his view on homosexuality was more important than his job and reputation, he is welcome to keep saying what he said. Apparently, he values his job and reputation more, and good for him. He's an excellent actor, and his character is an integral part of the show. It would be a shame if his own personal biases ruined that for everyone.

I can't support ignorance in any form, but I can sure think of a lot of things Hollywood should be apologizing for other than this cup of tea, Example: I am sorry I am a homosexual, adulterer, drug addict, drunkard, fornicator. I have also asked God to forgive me as well and will be going to church regularly in place of counseling.
Now watch be get called a bunch of names and thumbs down for telling the truth.

He has a right to say what he thinks, but that doesn't protect him from the consequences of his word choices. Our society is growing up and slowly acknowledging that homosexuality harms no one. Most people don't like to see their neighbors persecuted. It's un-American. Even those who cling to the antiquated notion that homosexuality is a perversion can appreciate that using certain disparaging words in public is not acceptable. Hate is not a virtue.

I agree with you that he shouldn't have to apologize, but not for any of the reasons you listed, because that would make me a bigot like you. And I'm not a bigot.
He has the right to say whatever he wants. And he has the right to be a bigot if he wants. Just like you and everyone else. He doesn't have to apologize for that, but I will support the network firing him for that if they have policies in place against hate speech.

You're a bit of an abomination yourself - do you really think all that hate you're spewing is pleasing to God? You know, the one who commanded us to love one another?

Because his boss told him to, and if he didn't he would be fired. If nothing else, it counts as sexual harassment.
