I have a Toshiba Portege M205. It is...okay... not the best thing I have ever worked on. I am a graphic artist and illustrator and LOVE a tablet, but this machine is always chugging along.
Yes I have all the upgrades. I have a 1G RAM and have very little stored on my hard drive to help increase speed. But is it the OS system that is holding me back? Would my programs, (Corel, Illustrator, Photoshop etc.) run better on VISTA?

Is Vista goign to help my Toshiba run better? Is it worth the upgrade?

Thank You ALL for your advice! I would go MAC laptop... but not until they have a tablet... which hopefully will be coming next year!

I will not upgrade to VISTA until the bugs are gone. By then, maybe the MAC iTable will be out!

Thanks!

Vista won't help!
There are a few small things you can do to try an increase speed.
Turn off screen savers, get rid of desktop wallpaper, check your start menu, if it isn't security related ...turn it off, defrag the hard drive, dump out any and all temporary files, most of all pray. Because it is still windows after all is said and done, unless you want to get into the dual core processors and change the hard drive itself for a faster spin you are basically stuck.
Laptops as a rule are not designed for serious graphics. This is a dual core, 2 gig Toshiba and I only use my design software when I have to work onsite and don't want to haul my desktop machine.
Bottom line, Vista will not help.

probably not

vista is not aimed at improving photoshop or anything like that. More or less marketed toward integrating various media formats and such. The idea is for windows to be the center of everyone's living room. Not such a bad thing really but it's not gonna help you render graphics any faster or easier. Actually, anytime microsoft upgrades the operating system you can expect a lot of bloat and a decrease in performance

The Vista improve could be properly worth it per value. Vista is going to be a competent OS, yet will, like another MS produce have bugs to initiate. in case you purchase the vista improve they could mail you the disk to do it, you're able to attend till you here approximately MS freeing the 1st patches for Vista and then deploy the improve.

DO NOT>>>I REPEAT NOT UPGRADE!!!!! It is a new CRAP from Microsoft...do not get me wrong I like Windows but Vista is crap!! Way to many bugs...I would tell you since you are into graphics go mac and I hate macs....But they will do what you want to do. I could go on and on on this but think mac for your use. I am PC (windows user) my brother is an artist and he uses macs. And no Vista wont help an existing pc, drveres are not there and so many problems and it is on sale this week so sad..

if its slow now it will be even slower with vista because vista uses even more system resources and need better hardware ... and i wouldnt upgrade to vista for at least a few more months until its proven to be bugfree and reliable .. probably from what ur using it for .. a faster processor in dualcore and a faster harddrive would benefit u immensly ...

you say you have all the upgrades but you don't mention the most important thing .
How fast is your processor?, have you checked your Tablet for virus?
If you have at least 1 gig in your processor the computer is not suppose to slow down, better find out what's wrong
