cockers are very good dogs but very temperament at times. I would keep her on a leash in the house and have someone come in. when she starts to run to the door snap her back with the leash/harness, that way she learns she shouldn't do that. I hope you can do something to save your dog, I would hate for you to have to put her down.

Don't forget your little Cocker is a hunter, by trade. One thing that works is to talk to a trainer, they can get expensive.
Don't forget your the human, the leader of the pack. You can discipline your doggy with a pinch on the nose (gently but firm enough to know you mean business). Say NO sternly and loud (c'mon you can do it, it's for the pup's good as well as yours).
If all else fails you can use scare tactics. This actually worked for a friend, even though I meant it as a joke.
Get the little novelty they call poppers, in some places. They are little balls of paper, that pop or bang when you toss them on the floor. Pop one on the floor, before the dog gets too close. These are fairly harmless kids novelties, but be cautious anyway, they make a bang when they go off. An air horn might work just as well, but I've never seen that done.
Use that as a last resort, if there were injuries involved, they can take the pup away from you.

According to Cesar Millan, you need to "claim the space" around the door as pack leader, and make your dog sit in a calm, submissive state before you open the door. Get a friend or family member to help you by ringing the doorbell and entering over and over while you practice making sure your dog is calm before you open the door. Do not allow the dog to get close to the door at all.

Another technique used by a professional trainer I know involves the owner holding the dog on a leash while an accomplice rings the bell, opens the door, throws in treats, and quickly closes the door, staying outside. This action is repeated, as the visitor gradually enters the house and comes further inside, until the dog associates good things with visitors coming through the door. He will be much more welcoming toward your visitor if he expects a treat.

Both of these techniques take patience and repetition, but don't give up. Your dog is worth it. Good luck!

Cockers are temperamental and can be aggressive. Seeing that this has become a pattern for her/him it is going to be very hard to break.. Seriously, the best thing to do is put her in a crate/cage( whatever) when you here the door bell or see someone coming.

Give her something more exciting to keep her occupied when the door opens. Like a bone or a treat or something. When you go to open the door say "get back" or something like that and don't open the door until she backs up. When she does, give her a treat. She will start to associate the door opening with something positive and eventually will just sit down waiting for her treat.

Worked with my two. My JRT mix used to rush out too. I don't have to give them treats anymore. They know that they can't go out or be near the door unless I say so.

Hmm... I only examine you have a 3yr previous.. enable me inform you cocker spaniels have a worse attractiveness with young babies than pit bulls do! I artwork at a shelter and that i've got seen some NASTY cocker spaniels. i does no longer have faith this female. We had a cocker on the shelter who grew to become into very friendly, yet somewhat possessive over his toy. We accompanied him out and he actually went NUTS. Barking on the wall and distinctly lots preserving the family contributors hostage. he grew to become into extremely aggressive and probable initially got here from a outdoor breeder or puppy keep. i do no longer have faith cocker spaniels in any respect! and that i unquestionably might by no skill have one around young babies!! in actuality, you don't be attentive to his historic past, and this female is strange. in case you like, examine it out, yet think of of your baby. i do no longer think of you would be wanting to threat her well-being. 80 bux is a astonishing cost, yet lower back, think of of what can ensue sooner or later - this canines could have aggression that could probable deliver approximately well-being facility costs. additionally this female can lie to you asserting he's by no skill bitten until eventually now.. you only don't be attentive to! in case you fairly need to get a cocker spaniel, then your terrific guess is to circulate via an excellent breeder- somebody who's attentive to the thank you to correct breed them. yet you mentioned, you do not have quite some funds, so which you won't be waiting to have the money for that. (plus on precise of the cost of the canines, there's a lot of costs!) i think of you ought to circulate to an animal shelter and spot what they have. Are there different canines you have an activity in? there are a number of mixed breed canines that ought to need to be a area of your loved ones, and are sturdy with young babies!! have faith me! Plus, shelter costs are way inexpensive. they could be only somewhat greater, perhaps around $a hundred and fifty-2 hundred, yet think of of it this way- you're turning out to be an already altered person canines, as much as this element on photos, examined for trouble-free illnesses (and damaging) like heartworm. i doubt that previous female has executed that! you may circulate into the shelter and discover a canines which you only fairly love. sturdy success!!!
