Being Christian raised and a pagan convert has made me a bit of a theologin.
That being said . You first need to believe in a Prime Creator of some kind that made the souls of everything.Satan is a soul(a fragment of the Creator) that was given the task of being the temper of the soul. St. Lucifer(another soul fragment) was to be this planets Guradian Angel until he let pride over take him and rose in rebillion against the creator thinking himself better able to run creation.Those Angles that followed him and ST. Lucifer were defeted and thrown out of heaven and fell through the heavens until they landed in a pit to await the day of Judgement.The Devil is a diferent case because of a misunderstanding by the begining Christian church. by one definition it means a follower of SATAN. By another defintion the Devil is one of the rulers of one of the levels of Hell . The image was drawen from the Persian god Ahriman( another soul fragment) by the Christian Church.
The different levels of Hell started from much the same place along with some Greek tales also Norse ones thrown in.To fill the rulers of these different levels of Hell . Known images of diferent evil enities were fused or had name changes and assigned by the Christian Church as the rulers by using (the as above so below therory). nine levels of each. 9+9=18=9 the number of the Prime Creator.SATANS and mankinds number each also add up to 9. If you take the three of these(God, Man, Satan) and add them toghter they come up to 27 = 9. Add the other 9 ( the final number of heaven and hell . you come up with 32=5 one of the numbers of humankind.this addtion is from Numerology. 5 is assigned to mankind because when you stand upright on your feet and spred your legs apartand extend your arms stright out from the shoulders you form a pentagram with five points.

I have a friend who thinks that the idea of a fallen angel is just King James smoke and mirrors. Context of scripture seems to belie that Idea, I believe. the demons cast out and into pigs is one case in point.... if there are no demons, how did that happen?
