i would define basic consciousness as the awareness of what you are doing, and why you are doing it. i.e. understanding self and your motivations, not just acting solely on instinct and with no comprehension of why.

Umm what kind of entity? I am pretty sure other things are conscious but not "our" consciousness of consciousness and different levels like that. I define consciousness by being aware of it.(Though not excluding other living beings meaning on the can communicate with us sector) On the level playing field that of which we are on. Also from computers its all programmed from a human conscious and has a bias with that creator.
