Try DBT. It is a treatment for that.

A psychologist can give you better advice than any of us can.

Hang in there!! You've managed to make it through 26 incidents alive. I know how difficult manic depression is; simply changing your outlook on life isn't enough to help, you have a very dangerous disease that greatly increases the chances of its victims killing themselves.

Again, a professional can give you better advice, but if I were you, when I was feeling depressed and suicidal, I'd just keep thinking about how good I will feel when I get manic again, which WILL inevitably happen-- all I have to do is wait without cutting or taking pills.

You can also try making artwork and writing stories about suicide when you're feeling suicidal. As you can see from modern art, you don't even need artistic talent. Find and create anything that you think can represent suicide; it doesn't even have to look good-- after all, suicide can be an ugly thing. You might even find that all of the practice improves your artistic skills.

Many great artists had manic depression. Van Gough and Hemmingway are the only ones I can remember for sure off the top of my head. I think Monet was, too. One of the classical music composers as well- Mozart or Beethoven, but I'm not sure.

You should go to the library and research manic depressive artists, suicidal artists, and artwork with suicide themes. You'll be able to find a lot of sources on these topics. What you find may interest you and inspire you so much that you'll be able to replace an actual suicide attempt with reading about suicide, and possibly writing and creating suicide-centered works of your own.

Hmm, my brother is manic, so I may be able to help there. I don't know too much about sucidal fixation and how to cope with that, sorry.

As for manic depression, try to just use it somewhat to your advantage. Get really involved in a certain activity and just try to plan flexible periods when you can be alone and vent, so even though you can't escape the manic depression, you can escape hurting the people you love around with it.

For overall coping with all of life's problems, just try to keep on living in the moment. Find a passion in life and stick to it, have that keep you going.

Best of wishes.

I can't tell you to talk to god and all that cos i don't even know my own beliefs there nor would I try to throw them on you. I've tried to kill myself 3 times and I'm diagnosed as depressed. But everytime I wanted to I thought about all the people it would hurt, my friends, family, etc. and I thougth about future things i would never get to experience, like kids and a husband and all that. I think I'm better cos I haven't even thought about it in a few years and my boyfriend has helped a lot with it. Surround youself with people who you know love and care about you and when you hit a really low point call them. real friends won't mind if you call them at 2 am because you're having a hard time. I know how it feels to hit really low points where you wonder what the point is probably not to the same extent as you but do something to take your mind off it. like watch a comedy or get online and find a joke site. I hope this helps.

I think you should be asking the doctors this question. If you tried 26 times to commit suicide and you did not succeed then you were not really trying to do it and so you are trying for attention because you know something is terribly wrong with you. Maybe you need to stay in a facility for a time and let the medical professionals try to help you.

I can't really relate to any of that.
I have panix/anxiety disorders complicated by severe bouts of depression.
But uh, never tried to kill myself or anything.
I guess you could check your self into a rehab so that they can monitor you. If you think your a danger to yourself then yeah, definately, find a mental health facility and make it home till your stable on meds - If your taking any at all.
Other than that...taking things minute by minute works for me. If you look to hard into the future or what ever it can get you down and make you put your life under a microscope.. etc etc... long story short - you get depressed. Atleast when you have mental diseases.
Hope that helped.

Don't let anyone threaten you with bullcrap about not getting into heaven because you have some mental issues. Those people are freakin idiots. The path to success at anything will be along with others. Find a sincere friend. You already know where to get medical help with your problems.

Well to start, make sure you go to your psychiatrist and take your medicine that is prescribed to you every day, even when you feel good. The main key is to stay on your medicine day to day even when you feel good because when you stop, that is when you start to feel bad again. Try to seek help with a therapist if you dont already and make sure you have friends around you that can help and understand what you're going through or atleast be there to help you day to day that you can call when you're down. You need a strong network of friends and family and you have to be willing to talk with people when you need to. One of the hardest things to cope with is the fact that you need to take medicine.. but you need it to help yourself feel better.. no matter how hard you think you can get yourself out of it, there are chemical imbalances and you need to get them straightened so you can keep on going day to day.

I dont know if that's what you wanted to hear but that's what I have.. I wish you the best of luck and if you need to talk to somebody you can email me or something whenever you like.

People with bipolar disorder often need medication. Please see a psychiatrist and get yourself on an appropriate medication if that is what the doctor recommends. Make sure that you follow your doctor's instructions about how to take it exactly. After that you might find that you benefit from psychological counseling. I hope you have a wonderful future.
