My throat has been killing for 3 days now. Its hard to swallow. I went to the doctor today and the quick strep test came back negative. What can I do to make my throat feel better?

Also, one of my tonsils is HUGE! I thought it would be strep, but i guess not

try Cepacol lozenges or spray. Tylenol, advil, gargling with salt water. look it up on WebMD good stuff on there. Also, do you have a fever? If you are getting worse, you could go to a ER. Do you still have your tonsils? could be an abcess... If you have any trouble breathing, you SHOULD go to a ER. Also, the preliminary strep results may come back positive after the culture 'grows' for 72 hrs. Any chance you have mono? Good luck hope you feel better soon!

If your doctor gave you antibiotics, regardless of the strep results, you should feel much better in a day or two. If he didn't, hopefully you'll still feel better in a day or two!

In the meantime, stay hydrated (easier said than done, I know). Gargle with salt water (sea salt is best, but regular table salt will do), drink some tea, take some ibuprofen, and just lay low!

I hope you feel better soon!

My throat is hurting too right now. It kills and I can barely swallow anything without being in pain. Plus mine is really dry and scratchy. My nose is also pretty runny now. I found Dayquil to be pretty helpful along with a big bag of throat lozenges. For some reason, chocolate milk seems to coat my throat a little giving it a brief sense of relief.

Hopefully your sickness will clear up soon. If you have what I have, I think it only lasts a couple of days. Quite a few of my friends were also sick with this, and it cleared up within 3-5 days (without any prescription meds).

Hope you feel better!!

Are you couging too? if you are, try not to cough as much. this should speed the healing time. For the mean time, there is little you can do. When you have a soar throat, your body is winning the battle againt a virus. Your body is has warriors that kill your infected throat cells. this is why it is soar. It's a phase so you cant do much. Just think about the poor kid who has cancer and is battling it everyday, and then think about yourself having to fight the virus for only a few days. This should make you feel better about it.

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. More details and home remedies available at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Gargle with warm salt water, take decongestants (to get rid of drainage that irritates the throat), drink warm tea with honey.
