I have a German Shepherd that scratches continuously. I have checked and there are no fleas, no flakes, no patches of hair falling out and he doesn't stink. What could it be and what remedies do you suggest?

There could be any number of reasons. It could be allergies or something in the house or air that is bothering the dog. Best thing would be to take it to the vet. The vet can give you ideas on what to do for it better than just guessing, plus give you anti-histimines for the itching until you figure out what is wrong with it with the vet's help

Did your dog just start scratching, or has he scratched himself for years? If he just started, think about what is new at your house. My guess is he's allergic to something in your house. Did you get a new wool rug that he sleeps on? Did you switch dog foods? He could have a food allergy. One bite from a flea is all it takes for a dog who is allergic to fleas to start itching like crazy.

Does your dog scratch her/himself with its back paw on the ear? Are its ears clean? My dog would not stop scratching and the vet showed us how to clean its ears. Poor baby!!

Another reason could be dry skin. Are you feeding your dog the right kind of food? I have heard that low quality food does not give dogs the oils they need for their skin. Good luck.

Try giving him a fish oil tablet every day. If it's dry skin this will help keep it more moist. Also be sure you're feeding a good quality dog food and keeping him brushed regularly.
And be sure you use a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner on him when you bathe him.

Dry skin? Been to the vet?

Try some oatmeal shampoo. You can find it at any pet supply like PetSmart, Petco, Farm-n-Fleet, etc.

Make sure there is enough humidity in your house/apartment... and that the dog gets plenty of fresh, clean water every day.

Have you taken him to the vet yet to get him checked??? If it's not fleas or mites it could be allergies.
