The guy I like is hispanic and often refers to me as "mama".....is this something special or should I not read too much into it? We have been out several times and talk often and I am just trying to understand how deep his affection for me goes.....
Would he use this term with any casual female friend or only with someone he thinks of as more than a friend? Thanks :)

What does it mean when the guy I like calls me "mama"?

*PS.....he refers to other girls as hermana, amiga or chica.......i have only heard him say "mama" with me and it is always during affectionate moments........he is never sarcastic with me. He also calls me "love" or "amor", but those terms are more obvious....it was "mama" I couldn't interpret.....Thanks Again ;)

As a Hispanic male I only use this term with girls I really like. It is a term of endearment and it's like saying sweetheart or darling except not so wishy washy sounding. It's a cute way to talk to the girl he likes. Feel honored.
I'm sorry but some of the answers I read here r coming out ppl's asses they apparently haven't been around my ppl long at all. It wasn't funny it was ridiculous what some jerks said.

I think he may be saying "mami" which is term of attraction and affection. It sounds kind of strange, but Hispanic women also use the term "papi" for their lover. It's seems a little incestuous, but I'm just a gringo so who am I to judge their culture? Anyways, I would guess that he likes you and is attracted to you. You go, girl!

Depends on how he says it, does he refer to his other female friends as mama, often? When does he say it? If its after you ask him to do something, he just might be acting sarcastic. It's more likely a compliment though, he probably thinks you are very attractive... like a hot mama.
I know a bunch of guys who refer to hot women as mamas.

nah.. Don't give meaning to that girl. I also experience the same way. It's just nothing girl. Don't expect. Don't assume. So that you won't get hurt. :)

I don't know about you, but I LOVE it when a guy calls me mama. It's also a hispanic thing for them to do...to call the girl mama. The hispanic women also call their daughters Mama...nothing to look into much, but yes, I think you can consider it sorta special! :)

Some hispanics tend to call girls ma or mami. I have never heard mama but that might be related to it. He probably sees you as more than a friend. See how he interacts with other women.

No, it's nothing special (sorry). I know plenty of hispanic guys that call me that, and we are just friends. It's just like how guys call women "honey or sweetheart". I think it's annoying tho, when they do it and don't know you that well... he's probably trying to play you by subconsciously getting in your head. Or he could mean it in terms of he likes he thinks your cool and sexy... you just gotta judge 4 yourself.

I don't know, but I know that unless I WAS his Mama, that would offend me. I think you should ask him why he calls you that. It could be cultural, or the way he was raised, or it could be a term of endearment. You won't know unless you ask him.

Not really.. that is a way that they calls you Honey... He might be calling you that because he is comfortable around you..
