I have Kubuntu 6.10 and I can't play DVDs, WMVs, AVIs, etc. Music works fine, but Kaffeine or any other player doesn't play any videos, it just sits at a black screen where the movie should be. Does anyone know how to fix this?

BTW I have an HP Pavilion zd8000 laptop if that helps.

For dvd's you need libdvdread.

I found a file online with all the codecs in and after extracting it's contents to the place where Xine (that's what I use in SUSE 10.1) looks for the codec's, 98% of my avi's, mpegs and wmv work.

Whether it works will depend on the application though, Mplayer and Xine work great for my but Totem does not work.
