He does this lately everytime my son is just sitting on the couch. It started about a month ago and is accompanied by him meowing very loudly (the cat not my 11 year-old son). Any ideas why? Is it playing? Is it a dominance thing? He only does it to my son, not me or my wife. We all play with the cat quite often and he always has food available.

I didnt think anyone else had this problem but me. when i am playing with my cat he tends to get excited and grab my hair with his sharp little teeth (HARD) from behind. I dont think it is a matter of dominance because i have never had a trouble with that between me and my cat and this only happens when he is playing or has had catnip(that explains it all doesnt it?) I would also suggest lightly disciplining him when this happens. Blow lightly in his face (slightly unpleasant) to distract him and then ignore him. He will crave your attention and realize that when he does that he will not be pet or even acknowledged. This has always worked for me.

This is actually a good thing. Your cat is showing affection for your son. Unlike dogs, cat's bite as a form of communication. (It is kind of sucky for us humans, because their teeth are sharp.) Your cat biting your son is nothing to worry about.

You may also see the cat sticking it's butt up in the air a lot. That is also a very good sign. It is just your cat's way of saying... Love you too !

The only thing I can suggest is that the cat is just weird (I love cats but will admit most of them are weird). I have one cat that does the same thing, almost out of an affection thing. She will come up and butt heads with my family then chew and lick our heads. I have seen her do this to the other cats I have, so figure she finally just considers us her equals. Cats will often pick one person in the house they are most fond of, regardless of who feeds and plays with them the most. Lucky for your son, he is the cat's chosen one.

My cat Samantha has done it for years.
Its a sign of love. They do it cause they are either cleaning your hair or checking it for anything.
They just do cause they are attached to you and they want and seek attention from us.
Its nothing to worry about. When im in my bed Samantha does it to me or when im on the couch and she is on the back of the couch.
Cats are strange creatures and sometimes they act like they don't want to be loved or messed with unless its there idea. Just like we pat them or scratch them they do us the same way but bitting out hair or washing it for us. Samantha my cat if I use certain shampoos or condtioner she will just really mess up my hair. Cause she can smell it so strongly cause her senses are better than a human.

Cats like strings. Cats like things that dangel. My cats bite my hair, play with my hair, swat at my hair, they simply think it's a toy. Same thing applies. He probably only dose it to your son because he likes him the best. My cat Midnight will only lick me and my other cat Cuddles will only sleep with my father. I guess cats can be picks like that...

It's really nothing to worry about...I've had cats myself that have done that, its just them grooming. Mine would bite, and lick my hair and my arms as if I had fleas, the same way they would do to themselves. They don't do that with everyone, they'll just seem to pick whoever they want to do that to.
