i would go witht he quest study Bible. its very good for studying. watch out for how modern the language gets in certain translations. it can change the principle stated in the verses and that changes christianity.

the kjv was put together by kj's scholars in 1610, he felt it was to vulgar so he made the 1611 kjv that most people know of. The NKJV is just a retranslation of the KJV. NIV is another good one for studying. it doesn't change much from the kjv but its much easier on the eyes and brain to hear the instead of thee and whither, therefore. NASB is also a very good translation. my favorite is the quest study Bible. it has sidenotes that answer questions you might have about weird verses.

The King James is the best( some new version leave out scripture and water down others).
To get the best meaning (during study) you need a Greek-Hebrew interlinear (the original languages Greek, hebrew and aramaic) are compared with English. Also a Strongs Concordance would be good. The numbers with each word can be looked up to see the meaning of each original word. If you Just want to study English go with The King James.
(you may like the Amplified Version).

I like using the King James Version to read from, but I usually use the New International Version (NIV) to do my Bible Studies from because it's a little bit easier for me to understand. I like reading out of the King James Version because it's the closest translation to the actual Hebrew version.

while the King James Ver. wasn't around when the dead sea scrolls was found it is still a good version to use. Problems come from understanding what you read. Some are lost in the "thee's" and "thou's". New American V, is easier for me to read. The best one is the one you can understand, preferably with study notes to help with background info for history date and time. Like my pastor says "the best translation is the one you will use."

The best Bible to use is the one that you will continue using because of its comfort in expression.
I prefer the NIV for its integrity to literary expression i.e. poems are shown as poems etc. It also does a good job in ftnoting where there is an issue of significance in translating.
Since the time of KJV, Biblical, linquistic, and archaeological advances rival the difference between the long bow and a space shuttle. We simply know so much more now and it is reflected in the new translations.

I have a Bible with four different translations in it! The KJV is the most accurate translation. The New KJV is in modern English and is also a very close translation. I like the New International Version the best because like the other to it sticks close to the original languages the Bible was written in but it is easiest to follow and to understand.

Use the King James. The other translations deny the deity of Jesus Christ in certain passages, cut complete chapters out, or downright change the meaning of what God intended to say. The King James is the most God honouring of them all for the English language.

stick to a "translation" and not a paraphrase, many people get confused there, NIV worked well when i was studying the bible, but there is a new version of the King James, alto easier to read but still very poetic sounding. just read your favorite verses in different translations and see what feels best that way. my humble suggestion. thomas
