As a long-time Christian (over 50 years now), a former pastor, and an evangelist most of my life, I have heard-- and I pass on-- some of the best advice. Which is this. If you are truly looking for "The Truth", I recommend you do this during your search:
Get a good modern language Bible; one you can read and understand. It should be "conversational", like talking with a friend. I use the NIV, and I use the NASB, I use the New Living Translation, and I use the Today's English Version. Find one you can read EASILY. For study Bibles, I like the New International Version (NIV) Study Bible. Start with the New Testament (I start folks with John). Before you begin to read, ask the Holy Spirit to teach you the truth. Ask Him to reveal Himself (God) to you. I have given around 50 people that exercise over 30 years, and I have not had one single person DO that exercise, and NOT find the truth in the pages of the New Testament. TRULY, the Bible is written in such a way that -- if you are sincere-- you will find The Truth. Once you have begun to study and learn, find a church with a pastor who teaches the Bible as God's word, who uses a modern translation (avoid those who INSIST on the KJV), and I recommend a pastor with a Dr in front of his name, so you get someone who knows the original lauguages (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek) Be ready for a life-transforming experience.
God bless you in your search.

People often refer to "religion" rather than "spirituality." There is a difference. Religion IS man -made. Anything made by humans is subject to fail and/or let you down. Try seeking God for yourself in prayer, reading of the Bible, etc. You don't have to fit into a certain belief. Form your own. The Holy Spirit will help you distinguish between right and wrong. Satan is the one placing all of the doubt in your mind...the very doubt that allowed you to present this question. That's good though...if you trust the right answers....you may find help here. There are great folks willing to pick you up when you're feeling low. Just don't "be ignorant of the devil's devices." He wants you to give up. I'll be praying for you.

You don't need a religion to be happy. I suggest you keep going in the direction you are going. I will never forget the day I gave up on magical religious beliefs. It was the happiest, most fulfilling, epiphanic day of my life. Read Richard Dawkins "God Delusion," or if you don't want to read, go to http://richarddawkins.net/home and check out the videos. Religious beleif in supernatural gets people absolutely nowhere. Just want to say to you, it is OK to be an Atheist. There are many more of us than you would think. Another website that helped me clear my thinking is about logical fallicies. Check it out. http://www.fallacyfiles.org/ ~Peace

Try to understand what religion means. Religion is not Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism etc. Religion means your essential characteristic. Like religion of sugar is to be sweet. Our religion is to love.
That our essential characteristic. We can live without so many things not without love. In order to have a long lasting love we need to love someone who is everlasting.
And that everlasting, eternal entity is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So if we develop our love for Him that is our real religion.
This has been explained in the most ancient Vedic Scriptures of India. If you would like to know more about them you could write to me.

Ask yourself why it isn't working. If your answer really has to do with the belief system, then you should keep looking for a better fit. Visit other religious places and learn about other belief systems, including atheism. You can find a lot out about how people feel by searching for key words here on yahoo.answers.com

When you are in a relationship do you tend to take more out of it than you put in...Do you think "what is in it for me", or "what am I bringing to the table?" That is how God works, you need to be a "what can I be doing" person, not a "whats in it for me", person. Stick with it, commit to being there whether you FEEL like it or not. Because that is how the most important things work. Even marriage is like that, I may not always FEEL love for my husband but I CHOOSE to love him anyway because it is the right thing to do. If you quit something before you ever really see how far YOU can take it you'll never know!

What kind of religion?
Why is it not working out?
Basically, you are either in a false religion or the only true one: Man's way to be saved or Christ's way.
Most people start with the wrong questions. God is. And that is the place to start.
He created the world and all that is in it.
He created man in His own image.
Why is there sickness, disease, death?
Man disobeyed His creator, being wise in his own eyes. Adam represented all mankind. All men are now under God's judgement and curse- so is the creation.
If you have never sinned (disobeyed God's law or not done what He commands in His Word) you are good. You will go to heaven. You are also a liar. Because God says:
"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us."
If you fail this test, you are under God's wrath and curse and are made liable to all the pains of this life, to death itself and to the pains of hell forever.
You see, God is perfect- if He was not, He would not be God. He must punnish sin.
BUT Christ is "the Way, the Truth, and the Life no one comes to the Father except by [Him]."
So, yes, the Way is narrow "and few are they who find it." Does this make God unkind or unloving? In NO way! We deserve NOTHING except HELL!
But God, in Christ, has made a way that He can justify- make right- sinful men. Christ came to earth as a man, lived a perfect life, suffered and died on the cross, rose again, and ascended into heaven. When one, by God's grace, sees the terribleness of his sin and places his WHOLE trust in Christ, God imputes Christ's Righteousness to the person and the person's guilt, sin, and condemnation to Christ.
On the cross this transfer took place that all who confess their sins, looking to Christ ALONE to be made right with God can now longer live in hatred toward God but can no obey Him.
This is called the "new birth."
This is the truth. It is the only way.
Read God's Word and Pray to Him, Forsake your sins, find a good Church that preaches God's Word and does not compromise to please men. "SEEK and ye shall find, KNOCK and the door shall be opened unto you."
Be prepared for a life-long battle against the world, flesh, and the devil! Christ is able to carry you through to the end- even unto death when you SHALL face Him as judge-
Believe it or not, but you SHALL be judged by your righteous God. The time is NOW. You could die ANY time.

drop the religion, and focus on the god of it. put your faith in the maker, and not in the religious activities that u should excel at. ps-Jesus is the saviour, and that's all u need to go to heaven, so even when u aren't perfect, or when the 'religion' part doesn't suit u, you'll be okay. if u are a different religion, well, good luck with that...

Depends on which religion it is that you're a part of. It's a good thing to search for the Truth, so I pray you find it soon; the Truth eases the heart, mind, and soul.
Peace and blessings be upon you!

Do comparitive study on all religions. If you are open minded you may well find a religion that helps you connect to the creator. If this is not your way keep looking. The Truth is there you just have to be open to finding it.
