I'm moving from LA to NY and I need to send my furnitures, clothing, CDs, computers and personal belongings to NY for storage. Is a moving company necessary or it's better to ship with FedEx? are there any better alternatives. What is the cheapest way?

you could buy a house for what fed ex would charge, if they did that.
If you don't mind packing your own, Arkansas Best Freight, a nationwide Contract/common carrier will drop a trailer at your house or apt., and after you load it, pick it up and deliver it to your new address.
It's much cheaper than a household goods carrier, and less stressful for many people than driving a big U-Haul.

ABF can be found in the yellow pages under trucking companies.

Good luck in your move.

Rental a U-Haul and enjoy the scenery. It will be much cheaper than paying someone else to haul it for you. It could cost thousands of dollars.
